Fit riverside walks and drinks by the docks around your studies in this northern city rich with Roman history
Head to the north west of England and settle down to study in a city that’s played an important part in history as far back as Roman times. Doing your shopping, meeting up with friends for lunch, or catching a play becomes simple with everything so close together in this charming city. When class ends, you can stroll through open countryside or clear your mind by cycling along the Guild Wheel, 21 miles of greenway circling the city.
The grand columns and arches of the city’s many Victorian and Georgian buildings will form a picturesque backdrop to your days as you dip in and out of shops picking up books or hunting for new threads to wear on your next night out. If you don’t find exactly the jeans you’re after, you can always jump on an express train and be in Manchester, a shopping mecca, in around half an hour.
After a day on your feet, you’ll be glad to come back to Preston where you can have a quiet moment in one of the city’s gorgeous parks or sit by the docks with a drink as you talk through your evening plans with friends. Will you have a laid back evening by the water enjoying a meal from one of the many restaurants, or see if you can snap up some last-minute theatre tickets?
University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is right in the centre of town, so no matter where you decide to live, your morning commute is likely to be no more than a few minutes’ walk.
