Exeter at a glance

Exeter is a small city located in the heart of South West England that packs a big punch. It’s a peaceful, scenic city that's surrounded by stunning coastal views of sandy beaches and a countryside with sweeping fossil cliffs.

This friendly and inviting city has a rare balance of the old and the new. Exeter possesses both ancient landmarks and modern amenities, which is music to the ears of visitors who are looking for all the modern comforts of life without missing out on tradition.

Exeter is known for its high quality of life, having been voted the best UK city for quality of life by Arcadis Investigating Britain: Cities Built for the Future 2018. One of the main reasons for that is its considerably low crime rate. Exeter was ranked as one of the top 10 safest cities in England according to the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2018.

A city with a rich history

Exeter’s history is rich and long predating the arrival of the Romans in AD 50. Its stunning architecture and various cultural hotspots are proof of the city’s preserved 2,000-year history. Its modern-day shops, restaurants, and facilities blend seamlessly with unique historical landmarks and gothic architecture like the Exeter Cathedral, the ancient city wall, St. Nicholas Priory and the Exe Bridge ruins.

Exeter is a city of great food

Exeter's independent arts scene is also renowned, but what really sets Exeter apart is its diverse mix of eateries, which makes it one of the foodie capitals of the South West. With a wide selection of restaurants, cafés and bars, students can easily find budget-friendly food options in Exeter, including vegetarian and vegan-friendly options.

The city is also firmly on the map for music with a thriving local music scene. In Exeter there’ll be no shortage of opportunities to catch your favourite bands and artists at top music venues such as Cavern, Exeter Phoenix and Lemon Grove.

Beaches and nature

Campus locations provide easy travel to Exeter’s beaches where students can take a sunny study break or celebrate their end of yearly exams. Exmouth and Falmouth’s beaches give students plenty of opportunities to soak up some sun and enjoy sailing, surfing, and other water sports.

Festivals and events

Exeter plays host to a packed calendar of diverse cultural events and festivals throughout the year such as the Exeter Castle Oktoberfest, a world-renowned German beer festival, the award winning Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink, an annual festival celebrating Exeter’s rich food culture, and the Exeter Respect Festival, a multicultural event that celebrates diversity with performing and creative arts.

Frequently asked questions about university accommodation in Exeter

How do I apply for a student flat in Exeter?

After you’ve found a property you like, go to that property’s page by clicking on ‘View rooms’. On the property page you’ll need to choose your preferred room type and click ‘Book Now’ or ‘Enquire’ to get more information. You’ll then be asked to leave your contact details and one of our booking consultants will contact you to take you through the next steps of the booking process or to answer any questions you might have.

Once you’re ready to book, a contract will be prepared for you to sign and after that you’ll have a new home!

What are the different room types you offer?

At the moment we offer two different types of rooms in Exeter.

Our Private Rooms offer a private bedroom and, depending on the property, you might also get your own private bathroom. In some properties, however, the bathroom is shared. Other facilities like the kitchen are shared with other students.

Booking the Entire Place will give you a fully self-contained studio apartment with your own bedroom, bathroom and other living facilities, typically a kitchenette where you can cook your own meals. No need to share anything with anyone if you go for the Entire Place option!

Is it safe to rent private student lettings?

All the student flats we list are from trusted landlords. We have a very strict vetting process that carefully vets all the landlords we feature to ensure that our student housing options are all comfortable and safe to use.

What bills are included in the rent?

This depends on the property. In most properties we list in Exeter, all bills are included in your rent. Make sure to check if this is the case with the property you’re interested in though. You can check this on the property page of each property.

Can you arrange a viewing for a flat I’m interested in?

Many of the properties we list in Exeter have a great selection of photos and videos of the properties, so even if you won’t be able to see the place for yourself, you can book with peace of mind, knowing what your new home will look like.

If you still feel like you’d prefer to see the place for yourself before booking though, we can arrange a viewing for you. Just give us a call and we’ll set it up for you!
