Explore Brisbane

With about 2.5 million inhabitants, Brisbane is the third-largest city in Australia. It’s also the capital and the largest city in the state of Queensland. The area has been inhabited by indigenous Australians for over 20,000 years and white settlers arrived in the beginning of the 19th century. Today Brisbane is a very cosmopolitan city, with 32.2% of its inhabitants having been born outside Australia.

Activities for students in Brisbane

Known for its quirky culture and the friendliness of its people, Brisbane is a city of green parks and lively activities. Fall in love with Central Brisbane’s picturesque blend of glittering skyscrapers and quaint Queenslander homes, the never-ending good weather and the locals’ sunny optimism. Discover alleyways teeming with vintage boutiques and galleries, then refuel at artisan cafés like Felix for Goodness.

Culture and outdoors

To get a dose of culture, head over to the Queensland Cultural Centre, where you can find the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Queensland Museum, the State Library of Queensland, the Queensland Art Gallery and the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. These are your go-to places for high culture, whilst the city’s open spaces offer a taste of the great outdoors. Hike to the summit of Mount Coot-tha west of the city centre for spectacular city views, or escape the heat with a swim at Streets Beach on the banks of the Brisbane River.

If you want to explore the Queensland coast further, there are some great places close by. Gold Coast is about an hour away by car to the south and Sunshine Coast is a bit further than that to the north. Both places have some great beaches and in Sunshine Coast you can also find the famous Australia Zoo, home to over 1,000 animals.

How does booking student accommodation in Brisbane work?

We’ve tried to make booking your student accommodation on Student.com as easy as possible. If you want to live close to your university or would like to live in a particular area of Brisbane, check out the map function on this page. There you can easily see the location of all the properties we list in Brisbane and you can check out the offering in the area you’re interested in.

You can also use our compare function to easily compare the similarities and differences between properties you think might be good for you. After you’ve found a property you like, go to that property’s page and click ‘Book Now’ or ‘Enquire’ to get more information. You’ll then be contacted by one of our booking consultants who will take you through the next steps all the way to the signing of the contract. After that your new student home is all booked and you’re ready to move to Brisbane!

What bills are included in the rent?

This depends on the property, so you’ll want to check the accommodation you’re interested in. In most properties in Brisbane however, all bills are included in your rent, meaning you won’t have to pay any extra on top of your monthly rent payments.

What types of rooms do you offer in Brisbane?

We have three different room types that you can choose from.

In a Shared Room you’ll share your bedroom with at least one other student. All other facilities will also be shared.

In a Private Room you’ll get your own bedroom. Depending on the property, you might also get your own private bathroom. In some properties however, the bathroom is shared and only the bedroom will be private. Other facilities like the kitchen will be shared.

If you book an Entire Place you’ll get your very own self-contained studio with your own bedroom, bathroom and usually a small kitchenette for cooking meals.

Do I need a visa to study in Australia?

Yes, if you’re not from Australia, you’ll need a student visa to be allowed to study. Usually a student visa is not too difficult to get, but each case is evaluated individually. If you should happen to not get a visa, many of the landlords we list will pay you your money back. Talk to one of our booking consultants to find out more about the ‘No Visa, No Pay’ policy.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

Yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit to secure a booking. Many of the student accommodation providers we list will return your deposit if you find out later that you have not been able to secure an Australian student visa.
