Where is Central Saint Martins located?

The University of the Arts London (UAL Central Saint Martins) has three locations in London, England. The university’s main campus is situated in the district of King’s Cross in London, while its Archway campus, which is home to the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, MA Fine Art, and MA Art and Science courses, is on Elthorne Road. The university also has premises in Richbell Place in Holborn.

Central Saint Martins sits at the heart of a vibrant area in one of the most dynamic cities in the world. The trendy restaurants, bars, galleries, parks, the canal-side setting and the unique Coal Drops Yard, which brings something entirely different to London’s shopping and dining scene, all make King’s Cross a great area in the heart of London.

But it was not always that way. The area is one of the largest and most successful redevelopment projects in London. The facelift has transformed this once derelict area into a much-loved part of the capital.

A symbol of blight and decay after World War II, the once important industrial and transport hub in the mid-1800s, and stomping ground of clubbers in the 1990s, King’s Cross’ dilapidated buildings, railway sidings, and contaminated land have made way for new public streets, squares with spectacular fountains and iconic parks.

The area’s drastic regeneration has attracted locals, tourists and corporate giants like Google, Facebook, and Universal Music. King’s Cross has transformed into a symbol of London’s industrial and engineering past and creative present - the perfect mix of gritty and shiny.

History of Central Saint Martins

The history of Central Saint Martins goes back to 1854 and the founding of St. Martin’s School of Art. The Central School of Art and Crafts was founded in 1896.

Both institutions, then known for their radical approach to art and design, believed in the importance of learning through making. That philosophy remains at the core of the university’s approach to teaching to this day.

The Central School of Art and Crafts became the Central School for Art and Design in 1966. Twenty-three years later, in 1989, it merged with St. Martin’s School of Art to form Central Saint Martins as we know it today.

The university welcomed Drama Centre London in 1999 and the Byam Shaw School of Art in 2003.

In 2011, Central Saint Martins relocated to its award-winning building in King’s Cross, at the heart of a dynamic part of London.

Frequently asked questions about student accommodation near Central Saint Martins

How can I book private student accommodation near Central Saint Martins on Student.com?

Booking private student accommodation near Central Saint Martins on Student.com is simple and easy. Use our website’s search filters, comparison, and map tools to make your search easier and find the right accommodation for you.

After choosing the property you want to live in, go to the property page by clicking ‘View rooms’. On the property page you’ll need to choose your room and click ‘Book Now’ or ‘Enquire’. You’ll be asked to leave your contact details and one of our booking consultants will contact you to answer any questions you may still have and help you complete the booking process once you are ready to book.

Why should I book private accommodation rather than live in dorms or UAL halls?

Booking a private accommodation will give you more options, especially in a big city like London where there are lots of properties to choose from. Many modern purpose-built student accommodation (PBSAs) offer great amenities to their inhabitants, such as in-house gyms, cinema and games rooms and dedicated study spaces.

You can also choose to live in any part of the city you like, whether this is in King’s Cross right next to your campus, or in any other part of London that you like.

You’ll also be able to freely choose the type of accommodation you want, whether you want to share with friends or live in a self-contained studio property.

What are the different room types you offer?

We offer three different types of rooms in London:

Shared Rooms: In this room type, two people share a bedroom. Bathrooms and kitchens are also shared with other people.

Private Rooms: Here you get a private bedroom just for yourself. Depending on the property, your bathroom may be either private or shared. Other facilities are shared with other tenants.

Entire Place: This is a fully private studio apartment with all private facilities. You’ll have your own bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette and don’t have to share any of these with anyone.

Are bills included in the rent?

Typically in the properties we list in London, all bills are included in the rent. However, this isn’t always the case, so check the property page of the property you are interested in to see if bills are included.

Are the apartments fully furnished?

On most occasions, yes, but this will also depend on the property you choose. You can see on the property page of each property if their rooms are furnished or not. You can also use the filters on this page to only see furnished properties.

Can I see the property before moving in?

Most of the student accommodation we list in London has a great array of photos, videos and even virtual tours on the property pages, so you’ll be able to get a good idea of what the property will look like even without seeing it.

If you feel more comfortable seeing the place first though, this can be arranged as well. Just contact our booking consultants and tell them which dates you will be in London for viewings, and they will arrange it for you.

What is a guarantor and will I need one?

A guarantor is someone who agrees to pay your rent if you are unable to pay it. Many of the properties we list require you to state who will be responsible for paying your rent if you are unable to do so.

Typically a guarantor is a family member, but this is not a requirement. Our booking consultants can give more information about guarantors.
