Get to know Adelaide

With about 1.3 million inhabitants, Adelaide is the fifth largest city in Australia. It’s the capital and the largest city in the state of South Australia. The city was founded in 1836 and unlike many other early Australian colonies, Adelaide was inhabited by free settlers instead of convicts from the United Kingdom. There have been some extensive developments to improve the infrastructure of the city during the 21st century. This makes Adelaide an attractive option when choosing a place to study.

Things to do in Adelaide for students

Studying in Adelaide, you can stroll the shops along the city’s elegant tree-lined boulevards, or head out of town to enjoy spectacular natural scenery.

You’ll forget you’re in the heart of a city when you wander through Adelaide’s fragrant Botanic Garden. In fact, you’re minutes from the stunning architecture of North Terrace, home to the University of Adelaide as well as the South Australia Art Gallery and Museum. The shops and cafés of Rundle Mall are close by, and the hipster hangouts surrounding Peel and Leigh are just around the corner. If your student accommodation is in Magill, it’s easy to get to the Adelaide Hills, where you can hike to Fourth Creek waterfalls, cuddle a koala at Cleland Wildlife Park, and still be home in time for drinks in the heart of the city.

How do I book student accommodation in Adelaide?

Booking your accommodation is very easy on Student.com. Go through the properties and choose the one you’d like to book. Use our map function to find out which properties are in a suitable location for you. Once you’ve found a property you like, go to the property’s page and click ‘Book Now’ or ‘Enquire’ if you find more information. Are all bills included in my rent?

Different properties have different practices on this, so you should check the property you’re interested in to know for sure. In most properties we list in Adelaide however, all bills are included in your rent, so you won’t have to pay anything extra on top of your rent payments.

What are the different room types on offer?

We have three different room types available in Adelaide. Do note however, that not all properties have all three types available, so you should check the property you are interested in to see what room types they offer.

A Shared Room is a room where you share your bedroom with at least one other student. Other facilities like bathroom and kitchen are also shared in a shared house option.

A Private Room gives you your own bedroom just for you. A bathroom might be shared or private depending on the property. Other facilities will be shared with other students.

An Entire Place is a self-contained studio apartment just for you. If you book the Entire Place option, you’ll get your very own bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette just for you, with no need to share living quarters with anyone.

I’m not from Australia. Do I need a visa to study in Adelaide?

Yes, as a foreign citizen you’ll need to apply for a student visa. In most cases student visas are granted without much hassle, so you shouldn’t have to worry. Keep in mind that each case is evaluated individually though.

If you were to not get a visa, many of the landlords we list will pay you your money back. You can ask our booking consultants more about this ‘No Visa, No Pay’ policy to find out more details and to check if the property you are interested in offers this as well.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

Yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit to the landlord in order to secure your booking. Our booking consultants can give you more information about this when they are getting your contract details sorted.
