Tampa at a glance

Located on Florida’s spectacular west coast, Tampa is a welcoming place for thrill-seekers, outdoor adventure lovers, foodies, and wine connoisseurs.

Like its mix of historic architecture and modern landmarks, Tampa is a melting pot for all cultures and settlers. WalletHub ranked the city in its top 20 most ethnically diverse cities of its size in the US.

Home to an array of colourful cultures

Tampa’s multicultural population is infused with a healthy dose of Cuban and Spanish flair. The historic Hispanic district of Ybor City, created around the Cuban cigar-rolling industry in the late 1800s, is renowned as a hot nightlife spot. You can soak up pulsating lively music, cocktails, and late-night dancing from its old red brick buildings. Enjoy authentic Cuban sandwiches from one of the neighbourhood’s sidewalk cafes, shop for colourful crafts at its street markets.

If you love the sight of stunning structures, stroll along the 7th Avenue and enjoy the beautiful Spanish architecture. Take your pick of Spanish dishes from an array of family-owned cafes.

If you’re not a fan of Spanish food or just prefer to prepare your own meals, there are plenty of markets in Tampa that sell spices and food from various other countries around the world.

The city’s cultural diversity can also be found in its variety of art galleries, theatres, museums, and events. Throughout the year, the city hosts several lively fairs and festivals honouring different cultures from across the world.

A city for adventure

With an average of 237 days of sunshine each year, some of the best beaches in the world, as well as many parks and preserves, there are plenty of adventures to be had in Tampa. The city provides plenty of opportunities to venture off the beaten path with a lot to see and do outside of the urban metro centre.

Beaches and parks line the miles of shoreline of the Tampa area, setting the stage for swimming, boating, picnics, and more.

Get your friends together for a weekend camping trip to the white-gold sands and clear Gulf waters of Honeymoon Island State Park, or to the gator-filled swamps of the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve.

Hit Hillsborough River State Park in Thonotosassa, or Lettuce Lake Park in north Tampa for hiking, biking, paddling, or bird-watching.

City life

Home to over 390,000 people in the actual city and about 3 million in the metropolitan area, Tampa is a unique and vibrant metropolis. You’ll enjoy the excitement of the city life just as much as its natural beauty and diverse cultural offerings.

With a combination of city and beachfront, the expanding downtown Tampa has a thriving social scene. Packed with young condo residents, the area is alive with hip bars, innovative dining options, regular festivals, concerts, events, and urban parks, including the gorgeous Tampa Riverwalk.
