Miami is most famous for its gorgeous scenery, welcoming atmosphere and thrilling outdoor activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, windsurfing, sportfishing and boat racing. But the city also offers many unexpected gems such as its diverse array of neighbourhoods.

Communities with an international flavour

Miami is one of the most diverse and multicultural cities in the United States. The state of Florida’s most populous and well-known city’s neighbourhoods are an incredible melting pot of varying cultures and styles.

Cuban Americans make up more than half of Miami’s population. Little Havana is at the centre of this vibrant Cuban community where you’ll find late-night salsa clubs like Ball & Chain, and the best Cuban sandwiches around. Calle Ocho on Southwest Eighth Street is the host of the annual Carnival Miami.

Visit Little Haiti or the city’s Bahamian foundations in West Coconut Grove where you can discover the heritage and authentic flavour of the Caribbean. Get immersed in the African-American culture with a visit to historic Overtown or learn about the natives of America at the thriving Miccosukee Indian Village in South Dade.

Art Deco on Miami Beach

It’s not just the colourful lifestyles and fashions that bring South Beach to life.

The first 20th-century neighbourhood to be recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, Miami Beach’s Art Deco Historic District boasts colourful century-old architecture with interesting décor elements and intricate details.

Inspired by European trends in Paris and the Mediterranean, the Art Deco architecture is a modern take on neoclassical architecture that is equally historic, retro and fabulous.

A walking tour offers visitors a glimpse into a bygone era where you can admire the iconic colourful streets like Ocean Drive.

Museums in Miami

Miami has long been home to fantastic and fascinating museums of history, art and science. The Bass Museum of Art and The Wolfsonian in Miami Beach are already renowned but the city has added something spectacular to its cultural scene.

Downtown Miami is now the proud home of the Maurice A. Ferré Park (formerly Museum Park), a sprawling 21-acre public urban area that has excellent bay side views and is perfect for strolling or jogging.

The park features the longest waterfront bay walk in Miami providing pedestrian access to a fascinating collection of museums and the Plaza de la Marina Española (Spanish Navy Plaza).

An expanding food scene

The ever-expanding culinary scene is a part of Miami’s fabric, one of the best food cities in the world. In recent times the city has experienced a restaurant renaissance leading to its meteoric rise to the top of the American food scene.

Miami has an insatiable appetite for both daytime and night-time dining, and the cultural diversity of the city means Miami can cater to every craving. Foodies will have a fun time in the city where they can enjoy a long list of internationally influenced foods from Latin America to the Caribbean.
