Student living in Chicago can be an incredible experience, as it is a true melting pot of culture and art. If you are in search of the most instagrammable murals imaginable, we recommend starting your tour in Pilsen, where countless stunning murals line the streets. Next head over to Logan Square, where you will be welcomed by the famous “Greetings from Chicago” mural, located on 2226 North Milwaukee Street. Another fan favorite is Millennium Park. This stunning area boasts many attractions and is most famously known for Cloudgate, also known as “The Bean.” After taking in all of the energy and interesting architecture within Millennium Park, we highly recommend heading over the famous and vibrant Riverwalk. The Chicago River, which is famously known to turn bright green every year in March on St. Patrick’s Day, splits downtown Chicago, and on either side you will find an abundance of unique shops, restaurants, cafes, exercise studios, and more. It is truly stunning and a great area to get lost in for an afternoon.

After admiring the cool and quirky art of your new city, it is time to make the hardest decision of your day - deciding on a restaurant in this foodie-lover city. You can always grab a piece of Chicago’s famous deep dish pizza from Lou Malnatis or a life-changing Italian Beef Sandwich from Al’s Italian Beef. If you are up for a special treat, just off the Cermak Redline, you can take a trip to the South Loop of Chicago and explore the famous Chicago Chinatown. Here you have countless options of delightful dim sum and bubble tea at every corner! It’s definitely recommended.

Frequently asked questions about student apartments in Chicago

How do I apply for a student room in Chicago?

First, you don’t have to worry about costs using our helpful services. Student.com does not charge you anything for this service: you’ll only need to pay the rent to the property you end up selecting.

Applying for student rooms with Student.com is very simple. First, click “View Rooms” on a property you are interested in. After this, you can click “Enquire” to create an account. You will then have a booking consultant reach out to you shortly to help you find the best option specifically for you. In Chicago, there are many new rooms that come to the market every day, so if you do not see exactly what you are looking for, we can help to see if there are any new options that better fit your needs, as well as help you with finding roommates. We will help you with all questions and make sure you are getting the best deal available.

What options are there for contract length?

Properties built for student housing typically have a 10-12 month minimum stay. Depending on availability, the properties may make exceptions. The shorter the lease term, the higher your monthly rental rates will be. Enquire on our site and we will work to find the best option for you!

I can see you offer different types of student rooms. What do these room types mean?

Each property and building have different rental options. Some options you will see may be the cost of an entire apartment, while others are for a private room, which means you get a private bedroom but share other facilities with others. The private rooms in shared apartments are typically more affordable and the properties can help you with finding roommates.

Are bills included in my rent?

This depends on the property you rent, so check the property you are interested in. Many of the properties we list in Chicago have at least some bills included.

Can I see a property before moving in?

Depending on the property, you will either be able to have an in person tour or a virtual tour. Enquire about the rooms you’re interested in and we’ll help to get this set up for you.

Do you offer summer housing in Chicago?

Yes, you can usually book your room for the whole year and stay during the summer as well if you want.

What is a guarantor and will I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs the rental contract with you and commits to paying your rent if you can’t. A guarantor is most typically a family member, but it can be anyone. Most Chicago landlords want you to have a guarantor, so you’ll most likely need one. If you are an international student and do not have a guarantor, most of our Chicago partners will allow you to rent rooms with additional deposits and proof of enrollment, along with an I-20 form. Our booking consultants can help you get all of this sorted once you are ready to move forward.
