We decided to host a tea party in Sheffield with the students and residents from Sheffcare who are taking part in the Together by Student.com – an intergenerational volunteering initiative.
A room filled with new friendships and friendly faces, at Together by Student.com tea party. The residents of Sheffcare – a local care home – were invited to the event alongside their student ‘buddies’ to celebrate the intergenerational volunteering initiative.
Focused around sharing experiences, topics of conversation covered everything from the latest TV series, celebrity encounters, to life in the war time and favourite childhood memories. What was clear to see is that despite the decades age difference between the two age groups, there were many similarities.
Of course as any tea party would include there were endless cakes, coffees and cups of tea – with background music of Vera Lynn. A big thank you to the team at Sheffcare for enabling the care home residents to attend, and of course the students that are taking part in the intergenerational volunteering initiative.
