Village on the Lake was an excellent place to live for 2+ years of my life. If I hadn't had to move away for personal reasons I'd certainly still be there. It's especially attractive if you work at NASA JSC, or nearby aerospace companies. The staff is friendly and professional, and the grounds are quite attractive. Maintenance is good at responding and it's easy to get everything done through the online community portal. It's a great place for pets, though be aware there is a lot of wildlife (armadillos, raccoons, etc) in the area. I always felt safe at this property and never saw any drama unfold. As with any property, nothing is perfect. Two things I disliked are 1) the wireless range on the gate is really poor. Often the signal to open the gate isn't received unless you are very close to the call box, and often impossible if a car is already at the call box attempting to dial. This can lead to large groups of cars that cannot get into the gate, as many times cars will sit at the call box without realizing they are preventing access for other cars. 2) Having a single trash compactor at the front of the property can be a bit cumbersome. Sometimes it's full and you have to wait a day to relinquish your trash. And unfortunately sometimes cars put trash bags on their roof to drive them to the front of the property but then forget about them and you'll occasionally see trash strewn about near the community entrance where it has fallen off vehicles. Of course, management can't do anything about this property design decision now. And honestly neither of these issues would stop me from living there (or even deduct a star), but I present them here in the spirit of full disclosure. Bottom line: You owe it to yourself to check out this property if you want to live in the area!

***WARNING: TOXIC WASTELAND*** This place is covered in MOLD inside and out— just look at the photos. I’m still dealing with medical issues from MOLD exposure months after moving out. I hear it can take up to a year to get rid of MOLD from your body after exposure. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT move into this toxic wasteland of an apartment.

So far, this is the best home I've rented, and that's the truth! I'm a picky renter, so that says a lot. 😁 It's quiet, the apartment was clean, the staff members are professional, the grounds are clean and beautiful, the location is nice, and there is a LOT to do in the area. Update: I ended up living here a little over 2 years. I moved out in Feb 2025, and I still agree with my initial review. In fact, I am considering moving back, so I went back to the reviews. I saw other reviewers talk about the trash, the cars' speeding, raccoons, and roaches. I've never seen any roaches (waterbugs) except outside, and that's nature. The trash piles up occasionally, but that's because some residents don't follow the trash compactor instructions. And maintenance clears it as SOON as they arrive during the working days. I lived in the front of the building next to the trash, so I saw first hand. Cars speeding in the parking lot is something I see in every parking lot I've ever been to. That is an Americans being in a rush problem, not the apartments. And I honestly didn't see this often either. Lastly, the raccoons do enjoy the trash at night, lol! But we live in the south, raccoons are in all the trash cans. No place is perfect, and if you like to complain, you'll find stuff to complain about anywhere. If you enjoy great views of nature, water, sights of beautiful birds, cute little lizards, squirrels, etc., and reasonable rent. You'll like it.

My family and I relocated to Houston in 2021, and what began as a stressful search for a new home quickly turned into a smooth and welcoming experience at Village on the Lake. From day one, Lori and her entire team—both in the office and maintenance—went above and beyond to make our four years there incredibly comfortable and stress-free. Any questions or maintenance needs were addressed promptly and professionally. When Hurricane Beryl hit, the staff responded immediately, taking care of any damage, keeping residents informed through regular emails, and even going around the community to check on everyone’s well-being. That level of care and communication really stood out to us. The community itself is safe, well-maintained, and family-friendly, with plenty of kind neighbors—both human and wildlife. It’s honestly one of the best places we’ve ever lived, and we’re truly going to miss it.
