The Essex House

Moved to this place 3 years ago when initially moved to Houston. Place has gone down hill, these apartments have a ROACH INFESTATION. Roaches are inside the walls. I had to break my lease due to roaches being all over my kitchen. Roaches have always been in the apartment however it got worse the last year. My neighbors downstairs also confirmed this. Things are constantly broken due to poor management and upkeep. The only good thing about this apartment was Carlos and the maintenance team they are responsive but overworked. I was charged 1700.00 in move out fees because everyone is moving out and the company is thirsty for money. So many vacant units. I had a package accidentally ship there and Kate from the office acted like I was inconveniencing her when I asked her to contact to current resident so I can retrieve it. Mind you the package said delivered and Kate states it’s not there. Kate maybe the most unhelpful staff in that office. Most importantly there was a burglary at the Gael which is connected to this apartment and two people were murdered. This just is another example of the type of residents and apartments these are. RUN!

This is one of the nicest apartments in the area. the manager Amy is one of the nicest person I've met in this industry so far. I've been looking for a place for over two weeks now and I was treated in several ways but this is the best experience I've had so far. Leasing office staff are very helpful. Maintenance people come within 24hours of service request. It’s been 2 months and the experience have been good so far.

I've lived in the Essex House from May 2023 to June 2024. It was a nice place and calm place to live. When I moved in, the communication with Sam was wonderful, she replied promptly to all my questions and issues. But in the last 6 months It has been quite difficult to have a good communication with the management office. I was supposed to get a refund for my deposit and part of the rent. They said and wrote me an email I would get a check from 20-30 days after I left the complex. It's been almost 40 days I left the apartment and no one answers my emails. This is quite disappointing.

The complex is clean and well kept. I briefly met the head of maintenance, who was also very nice. Stephanie from the leasing office was absolutely amazing. She was patient, answered all my questions, took me to tour different units, and was super friendly. She even got me first aid supplies when I fell walking with her across the street. Great place, I hope to be a resident soon!
