McElvaney Residential Commons

It’s a shame that the people and faculty who work/live at McElvaney are so pleasant, since it makes me feel bad for rating it so poorly. But I’ve paid for a single room all of this year, and this entire year I’ve had to deal with my room being either too hot or too cold. It was rare that I’d be able to control my room temperature at all—I just counted myself lucky when it was too cold since at least I could bundle up. But last night was ridiculous; it’s my last night in McElvaney, and before my last final before moving out for the summer, and what an awful last impression to make. Got less than 1 hour of actual sleep since my room was at 76 degrees for the entire night, even with my own fan at full blast. Waking up feeling this poorly rested and irritable the day of my last finals is really frustrating, especially when housing is so expensive here—and especially because dorm living is mandatory. Needing to pay to have a room that makes a lot of the crummy roadside motels I’ve stayed in look like the Hilton is ridiculous. Hope the maintenance team gets their shit together—somehow the classroom in McElvaney always seems to have functioning temperature. Shame that courtesy isn’t extended to the people who pay to live in this dump.
