Fourplex (SMU Apartment Community)

Multiple break ins, loud train, HOA is useless, noisy neighbors. Live here if you like loud apartments and things never working.

I'm happy to call this place my home! The building is clean, and it's a very walkable area. You're walking distance from SMU, USPS, and a few bars and resturants on SMU BLVD. You can walk along the university walking trail to visit the shops or the train station at mockingbird station. Yes, the building is right next to the DART, and the trains are very active, however it doesn't bother me at all. With that said, this comment is subjective. Some of you may get bothered with the active dart trains. I personally don't have a problem with it; and my balcony faces DART. Overall, I'm happy!

Great place to live. Used to be an apartment building that was converted into condos. Since then, they’ve really turned the place around. The have a bar located on the first floor, a outdoor patio with grills, a gym and gated parking. Great location for a student as it’s not a far walk to class and the campus gym/pool is across the street. A very safe & gated condo.

The Shelby is GREAT! I lived there for a year and just had to relocate to another city, but I miss the Shelby. The location is perfect. It is walking distance from many different restaurants, grocery stores, and a stone's throw from the Katy Trail. I was always able to get a spot in the workout room or in the lounge, and the second floor outdoor space is perfect for entertaining. Parking is convenient and safe. As of July 2021, I know there are some places available, so definitely consider the Shelby if you are looking for a great place to live!! Also, there are a lot of cute dogs which is always a plus :)

The place is a dump. They don't clean the apartments before you move in, my floors were filthy. It's ludicrously expensive, and for the price you pay you get construction noise in the morning, not to mention the DART rail, and bar noise at night. The loudest apartment I've ever been in. On top of that the fridge is busted, the shower curtain was torn off the wall when we moved in, and the lights flicker anytime the train goes by (basically every fifteen minutes). All this, plus every frat daddy student SMU has to offer, can be yours if you move into the Shelby. But wait, there's more! It's more or less the most difficult process imaginable to move in, as your options are parking in front of a bar and blocking traffic or going into a tiny back alley and then carrying whatever you offload through the parking deck to the elevator. Don't count on your trip being easy though, because the elevator is broken more often than it's working. I'm in hell.
