Convenient to school, poorly maintained environment (fire alarms always going off and very dirty main areas), ok rooms.
Maintenance team is nice and responsive, so none of this is their fault. I’ve had every issue you can think of with this apartment though. I’ve had roaches, the fire alarms go off constantly for no reason, (they went off for 3 hours straight today), my washer broke and flooded my kitchen. I got charged a 500 dollar cleaning fee when I switched rooms here and the new room I was assigned to in the complex was significantly dirtier than my old one. That makes a lot of sense. The elevators don’t work. The WiFi is trash. I had multiple issues with the locks too. The management is smart when it comes to scamming you but not no smart when it comes to customers service. The fire alarms constantly go off and they just give you a “I’m sorry for the inconvenience”. Like bro you’re not my girlfriend, I don’t give a shit about apologies, give me my money back. Why can’t I use my apartment for half a day sometimes because the management is incompetent but still have to pay for it? It’s unacceptable. The fire alarm has probably falsely gone off 20 times in the last three months. The management is so stupid, and that’s the nicest thing I could say to them.
Terrible delivery system. Wi-fi has been going out on and off for days. Today, as a result of fire alarm testing from SEVEN AM TO TWELVE PM, my room’s fire alarm was set off at 7:05 am. What kind of apartment that cares about its residents sets off fire alarms at seven in the morning? Several promises were made to me, taken away, and required months of back and forth to get back. Guest parking costs $10 a night, and resident parking has been slowly pushed up the garage for nonexistent retail parkers (although I sure have seen people engaging in intimate activities). Pools require wristbands (for some reason. It’s not like the pools here are impressive). Loud construction starts early in the morning and doesn’t stop for ages. And, I’d really like to emphasize this, TERRIBLE DELIVERY SYSTEM. I shouldn’t have to wait DAYS after my package arrived to pick it up.
Save your money. Live anywhere else.
Wifi is always going out which is not good for students at all. Parking is an issue with visitors having to pay for visitor parking when you already have to pay 50 dollars for your own spot. The halls are always a mess and never get cleaned. The elevators are always braking down and takes forever before the staff fixes it. Do not live here, go somewhere else.
The units at this complex are fairly large and updated for their price and proximity to campus. However, this cannot make up for management practices that I found to be unfair and predatory toward tenants who are mostly students.
Common spaces are always filthy, broken down, and smelling of trash. Hallways are littered with cans, broken glass, and even this shrimp that was left in the stairway for more than a week before being cleaned. In my two years of living here, the electronic locks to enter the building were not in use more than 95% of the time and anyone could walk in, creating serious safety concerns. The elevators in the parking garage are frequently out of order, and yet there are so many reserved spaces for businesses that are no longer even open that I often had to park on the fifth or sixth floors. The pools are nice, but are unenjoyable due to the amount of hair, feathers, dirt, and grime in them.
Finally, they will charge you hundreds of dollars for everything and anything when you move out. Out of the 10+ people I knew who lived here, everyone was charged for "damages". I was charged for carpet cleaning and paid it, although reluctantly, as I felt the damage was normal wear and tear and not entirely caused by my tenure. Several months after I had already moved out they then charged me again, this time to replace the carpet without saying anything or providing any documentation supporting that the cleaning I had previously paid for was actually completed or why replacement was now needed. I found this to be not aligned with what you would expect from a reputable and ethical business. They say you are able to dispute damage charges but are very difficult to communicate with via phone or email and only respond to google reviews apparently. When I was able to contact them, they refused to remove this charge without much explanation, which I felt was unsupported and unfair.
As aforementioned, the price and location are good for this property and appealing to many students. However, it is not worth it to live here, which is truthfully very sad. What could be a great complex that serves as an environment to set students up for success actually elicits a lot of frustration and fear for safety. You are better off spending more to live at one of the nicer complexes on Northgate or just commuting from further out.
