Fivetwo at Highland offers modern apartments in a walkable area near the Austin Community College Highland campus. You get spacious units with high ceilings and clean finishes. Remote workers benefit from immediate fiber internet access upon move-in. The amenities include a well-equipped gym, pools, and outdoor seating areas. The building underwent a recent change in management. The leasing staff responds quickly, but maintenance delays occur due to the size of the complex. Some residents report ongoing property issues outside the direct control of the front office. You must test the electronic doors and gates when you tour the property. Ask the staff to show you the exact unit you plan to rent. Verify the air conditioning works properly before you sign the lease. You pay premium rent here, so you need to confirm you receive the promised value.

As a nearby resident, I feel obligated to share how upsetting and honestly disturbing this experience was with both a resident of this complex and the management team’s response afterward. While walking near the property, a resident’s pitbull aggressively barked at my 12 year old senior dog inside the property foyer between Paris Baguette and Sweat440. Since both dogs appeared to be leashed, we kept walking away from the situation toward the sidewalk and park area nearby. Within minutes, I heard yelling behind me and turned around to see the same dog charging directly at us after the owner lost control of the leash. I had to physically jump in front of my dog and get on the ground trying to hold and protect him while simultaneously trying to get the other dog off of mine. Thankfully, my dog’s thick fur appears to have prevented puncture wounds because the pitbull was going for his neck and head area. Honestly, I was lucky I was not bitten myself while trying to stop it. I sent management photos showing the wet fur around my dog’s neck and jaw where the dog was attempting to latch on, along with photos of my scratched up, dirt covered knees and legs from being on the ground trying to protect him. What shook me almost as much as the attack itself was the complete lack of remorse from the owner. I was literally on the ground in the dirt holding my terrified senior dog, and not once did he apologize or show any concern. The resident later admitted to management that they lost control of the leash, yet management’s response felt far more focused on avoiding liability than addressing the seriousness of what happened or the safety concerns moving forward. I contacted management because I am genuinely worried this could happen to someone else. Not every person is going to instinctively throw themselves in front of their dog the way I did, and not everyone is going to walk away without injuries. What is honestly most upsetting is that the fact my dog was not physically mauled is seemingly the only reason this situation is not being taken more seriously. Their response was essentially that the owner would “be more careful,” which does not feel remotely adequate given what happened. Based on the owner’s behavior during the incident, I have zero confidence this dog will receive proper training or handling moving forward. If I had not physically stepped in front of my dog, I genuinely believe this could have ended with my dog being severely injured or killed. In the 12 years I have had him, we have never experienced anything remotely like this. This was not two dogs reacting to each other. This dog charged us out of nowhere with clear aggression. For safety awareness, the tenant was a tall, heavy set white male approximately 6’4” to 6’5” with shaggy hair and glasses. The dog was a white pitbull with brown spots. I have also attached screenshots of the email correspondence with management regarding this incident. For the lack of empathy, accountability, and concern shown by both the resident involved and the employees handling this situation, I personally would not recommend moving here.

Lived here 6 months now and my truck has been broken into at least 4 times. I feel like I’m just paying for the location which is convenient for me personally. However, security on the property is almost non existent. Half of the access controlled entryways don’t work with your key fob and you’ll often find those doors propped open with a sign posted for months saying they’re “working with a contractor” to get it fixed. The parking garage conveys a false sense of security, there is 1 camera at the gate that doesn’t work bc you will regularly see cars with broken windows right in front of the camera. Every once in a blue moon they will have a patrol car in the garage but they usually just hang out in the cafe Bennu on the first floor. I have a long way to go on my lease and I’m already starting to have my doubts about this property. Management is prompt in their email communication but the office manager seems to have the memory of a goldfish and a disdain for residents. Anytime you go in to raise a concern about the security of the garage and entryways she rolls her eyes or scoffs and gives you a sour look as if you have nothing to do but go bother her in the office. The rest of the staff, I don’t have much to say since I hardly ever seen anyone else there. The 1 pool that is open is pretty small, the other one has been drained and empty since the summer for repairs. The gym is decent but has a really stale and sour smell, it probably just needs to be mopped every once in a while and the machines actually fixed. Living here is definitely an upgrade from my previous experience at the falls on bull creek off capital of Texas, but I understand that I’m really overpaying for what I’m getting here. UPDATE: Storage unit on 3rd floor was burglarized while I was home. The persons responsible were caught on camera both the Ring of my neighbor across the hall from my unit and the garage gate camera. Nothing has been done and little help has come even after I provided all the info i could gather on the incident. The manager, as usual, brushed it off as a one time thing. Maybe for her it is, but it is not a one time occurrence as my review from over a year ago describes. Renters beware!
