21st Street Co-op

Love/hate relationship with this place. I lived here for 2 years. You kinda get what you pay for imo ,🤷. It takes a bit to get used to all the rules and the ways of life. Theres a LOT of traditions. My biggest issue was the noise. I was coming home from work around midnight and if I asked people to quiet down on the back porch so I could sleep and be up for my 8AMs, I was told to read the manual (which states quiet hours don't start until 3AM) or told to invest in ear plugs (which would mean I don't hear my alarms go off) Next big problem was the inconsistent hot water. I know they are currently working on that and plan to have it fixed before next fall. Water was either cold/room temp or scalding hot. SOMETIMES it was perfect, but the stars and moon had to be in retrograde or something. Positives: The people are fun and friendly. Yeah it's messy but that's kind of what you get when you live lord of the flies style. If you have the free time to become part of the culture/community it's not too bad. People take a lot of pride in this place because of how much everyone works. In my experience the only people who aren't good fits or move out immediately are the people who are scared of hard work or feel too entitled to participate in it. We all know work sucks but that's just a part of life. Parties are nice if you have the time for them. The CO op is incredibly customizable. People paint murals and put artwork up everywhere. You can do whatever you want to to your room. I painted my entire suite purple. There's a gym. It's alright. If you're used to going somewhere like Gold's and maxing out machines then this isn't the gym for you. If you're a normal person you can get a decent workout in. The PC lab comes in clutch if you need to print anything out (free printing 🤑) The freebox is a nice little swap zone. Lots of nice stuff in there. conclusion: if you are in need of some soul searching or need to find yourself as an evolving young adult the coop is a good place full of expressive people. I have witnessed so many transformations over my time here. Watching shy and timid people develop the biggest personalities and confidence is insane. On the other hand I have watched some people not evolve at all and maybe even regress and go backwards. Your experience at the CO op is what you make of it :)

Best place and mostly people, I've ever met. No it's not for everyone. But if you're open to new experiences, kindness and friendships for life, this is the place for you!

There are so many underage kids drinking here… I was passing by today and seen multiple girls throwing up outside & around the Co-op. Every time they have an event the house organizers are drunk letting kids in or picking fights with randoms.
