Aries Apartments

If you're someone that's down on your luck with bad credit or just need somewhere to go, talk to Amer. He gave me a one year lease when no one else would and I'm very grateful. The maintenance crew does a good job fixing things up and management is very fast to respond to any problems you may be having with your unit. They are very reliable and will work with you. However, with that being said there are a few bad things about the apartment and the area. Firstly, there are stray cats all around the area that come and go year round. Also, the downstairs units had bedbug problems earlier in the year. I was in one of the upstairs units and I guess I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get any bedbugs in my unit but I still saw dead bed bugs all around the outside of the property and cockroaches despite the owners spraying pesticide from time to time. The final verdict: The apartment is in decent shape and you get what you pay for, just make sure you're willing to put up with the downsides

The caretaker here has zero respect for PRIVACY — they come into rooms at any time of day without notice or permission. Tenants are often shouted at for no reason, sometimes aggressively and with threatening language. In many places, this kind of behavior could even fall under disorderly conduct laws (for example, New York Penal Law § 240.20). The building itself is an eyesore near the University, ruining the view. It’s poorly maintained, with years of neglect leading to visible decay and partial ruin. In my opinion, it’s a hazard to the health, safety, and welfare of the public, and structures like this should not be allowed to remain in a downtown area.

Bed bugs & Roaches! I want to feel bad for the owners who seem to have recently bought the building. They're nice enough people but I don't think they know how bad the Aries Apartment building is. At least one bottom floor unit near the stairs is infested with bedbugs which can even be seen outside the building where the wall meets the concrete. Occaisionally the dead bedbugs will be swept up so you might not see them when you go to tour it. But almost every morning the bed bugs will be there again. The owners said they'll have the unit treated but since the bedbugs can be seen from outside the unit, and inside the unit, how likely is it that the problem actually requires the building itself (515 UTA Blvd) to be treated rather than a single unit? The infestation was so bad that I caught a bed bug crawling on my arm while I was working at my desk. You’ll likely find them in the shower and the closet of the unit. Be sure to get a simple, and clear, response about whether or not the bed bug problem has been completely taken care of. When we toured the unit there was also a dead roach in the cabinets. I thought this might be an issue they had taken care of but just days later we saw adult and baby german cockroaches on an almost nightly basis. And since it was hard to view the apartment since the tour was guided, we only discovered after leasing that the freezer had what looked like egg sacks in it and dead fruit flies in the fridge. When touring this place ask about roaches and bed bugs specifically, a landlord saying something like “Well it’s Texas you’re going to see bugs” or “It’s summer you’re going to see bugs” "I haven't heard anyone complain” or "No one has said anything" or that they "have someone come out and spray every X number of weeks" are red flags. In general if an apartment complex has a large sign or banner outside saying "for rent" that's a red flag. Other red flags can be things like the phrase "recently renovated" or the landlord trying to show you gadgets they've recently installed. Bedbugs are not like other bugs. Just know what you might be getting yourself into.

It's a great location, and the units are being upgraded. I highly recommend making Aries your new apartment home.
