An excellent place to live. All maintenance needs are handled promptly, respectfully, and efficiently. We've lived here for about four years, and I highly recommend this place to make your home and give yourself the opportunity to experience living here.

Well....it's a starter apartment. I lived at Townsend Apartments for 2 years. I mean, it's a decent starter place. But it's got its fallbacks like any place else. CONS -Water is included in rent and that's intentional. There were times when my roommate and I would lose water completely. We'd reach out to maintenance for a fix; and if we selected the 'emergency' maintenance option, we could usually get it resolved pretty quicky. They'd go to the side of the building, fix some switch, and the water would be up and running again. But too many times, we went without water when the fix was as simple as a flick of a switch. It seemed really silly and inadequately managed. -Maintenance was unprofessional. They would enter our apartment with no warning or notice. It surprised us all the time. And then when we'd ask why they were there, they couldn't speak English. I have no problem with non-English speakers, but a notice from the apartment is ideal when maintenance workers are entering the home. Especially for women such as us. I couldn't imagine how I'd feel if children were in the home when they did this. -The AC never reached the master bedroom. I imagine because the building is so old, it's hard for ventilation to move throughout. Therefore, the fan never reached the back of the apartment, and depending on your layout, that could be the master bedroom. It causes the back room to be a noticeable 3-5 degrees hotter than the rest of the home. -Poor communication with the office managers. The managers at Townsend Apartment seem distracted and unable to handle the workload given to them, thus resulting in poorly managed maintenance, insufficient notices, and a high turnover in residents. You can only communicate with them by visiting the office, yet they somehow always find a way to communicate with you if they're missing rental payments, legal documentation, or anything else. It just seems negligent overall. PROS -Cheap rent. -Friendly neighborhood. -Amenities (Gym, pool, food truck, etc...) -Close to bus stops. -Good for if you're starting out in Jax and need a place to temporarily stay. It's in an area that was formally 'the hood' but they're slowly gentrifying it. Best of luck.
