Universities in Loughborough
There’s only one university in Loughborough, but it’s so central to the life of the town that some describe Loughborough as a university with a town supporting it rather than the other way around! Whichever way you spin it, here’s what you need to know about the university.
Loughborough University
A perennial fixture in the UK’s top university rankings, Loughborough University has grown from humble roots as a small technical institute founded in 1909 to the globally renowned university it is today.
It’s best known for sports, consistently ranking as the best university in the world for sports-related subjects. That includes sports science, sports coaching and sports management – so if you’re pursuing any of these areas, you won’t do better than Loughborough University.
Such a strong reputation for sports shouldn’t distract from Loughborough University’s other fields of expertise. It's also one of the best places in the UK to study art and design, media and communication, engineering, and architecture.
The main campus (there’s a second campus in London) is a 20-minute walk from the town centre. Set on 523 acres, it’s a real green haven and has everything you could possibly need including shops, restaurants and even a nightclub!
Close to 20,000 students call Loughborough University home and the self-contained campus creates a special community feel. With more than 90 student clubs on offer (and not just sports-related), meeting new people is easy.
