The university’s location, which is within reach of one of England’s most popular beaches, the countryside, central London (one hour by train), and Gatwick International Airport (less than 30 minutes), makes it a prime spot for UK and international students alike.

Even though it is 47 miles away from the capital, Brighton Beach is also called “London’s beach.” The pebbly beach has certified Blue Flag waters and a 4-mile promenade that buzzes with life in all seasons.

However, Brighton is way more than just a popular beach and a collection of quirky narrow lanes. It is a fun, forward-thinking, and creative town that is known for its independence and inclusiveness towards all cultures, nationalities, and religions. In Brighton you will be at home regardless of your country of origin, background, and lifestyle.

Brighton is also one of the liveliest and most diverse places in the United Kingdom to live and study, making it a fantastic place for students. It regularly places inside the top 10 in the UK and top 100 worldwide in the QS Best Student Cities rankings.

Eastbourne

While generally more on the relaxed side, Eastbourne provides its own share of delight. The sunny resort town, which is forty minutes along the coast from Brighton, offers the beach, countryside, shopping, art galleries, theatre, and sporting facilities.

The University of Brighton’s history goes back to the opening of the Brighton School of Art in 1858.

The Municipal School of Science and Technology opened its doors in 1897. A year later, The Chelsea School opened in London, while the Brighton College of Technology opened on Lewes Road in 1963. Two years later, the 32-acre Falmer campus was opened for the Brighton College of Education.

In 1970, Brighton Polytechnic was formed from the merger of The School of Art and Brighton College of Technology. It then merged with The Teacher Training College in 1976 and received another campus at Falmer.

Three years later, the polytechnic spread its wings into Eastbourne with the merger with The East Sussex College of Higher Education, including the Chelsea School.
