Where is Birmingham City University located?

If you choose to enrol at Birmingham City University, you will be studying and living at the heart of a vibrant, diverse city. The BCU campus is only about a 10-minute walk from the city centre.

Birmingham is packed with attractions and plenty of opportunities to have fun. The city is home to over one million residents from a wide range of different cultures and ethnic groups.

It offers you the chance to study and work in the youngest major city in Europe with 40 percent of its population being 25 and younger and close to 30 percent under 20 years old.

The city is loaded with world-class restaurants, grand entertainment and high-level shopping.

Birmingham also has excellent transportation links, making it very easy for you to enjoy all of what the city has to offer and of course to get to and from campus.

History, culture and art

Birmingham is also steeped in industrial heritage but still significantly forward-thinking and innovative.

Birmingham’s best cultural offerings give London a run for its money. Its museums and galleries are packed with local history flaunting grand old masters and contemporary gems. Many of them are housed in buildings that are beauty attractions in themselves.

The city’s art scene remains as fresh as it is diverse and has something for every art lover, whether old or new.

On top of all of that, many of the city’s top-notch galleries, museums and exhibition spaces are within easy walking distance of each other.

Fun activities

There are plenty more attractions and activities in Birmingham to sink your teeth into and enjoy, including sightseeing opportunities at every turn, 35 miles of canals, a network of flat, family-friendly cycle trails and big sports stadiums.

Informative walking tours will give you a feel for the city while award-winning parks are waiting to be explored.

Chocolate lovers will be in heaven at Cadbury World, one of Birmingham’s largest leisure attractions, while sports fans can get their ‘footie’ thrills with a visit to Villa Park, home of English Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

Shopping

When it comes to shopping, you’ll be spoilt for choice in Birmingham. Bullring, the Mailbox and Grand Central are top shopping destinations where you can find designer labels, high street staples, unique jewellery, or quirky market finds.

Studying at BCU

The second-largest university in Birmingham is comprised of the City Centre Campus and the City South Campus as well as additional sites around the city.

It is comprised of four main faculties that offer over 1,000 contemporary, flexible courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across a wide range of disciplines, including health and life sciences, engineering, business, law, and media.

If you decide to study at Birmingham City University (BCU), you’ll receive a first-class education with about 50 of its courses possessing internationally recognised accreditations.

BCU successfully combines innovative teaching, practice-led, knowledge-based learning, student support and practice-based research to its 27,000 students from over 100 countries.

In 2014, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) adjudged 90 percent of the university’s research to have delivered ‘outstanding’ or ‘very considerable’ external impact.

Investing in your future

You’ll also have access to cutting-edge facilities.

BCU has recently invested around £300 million in its campuses and facilities, including a major expansion of its City Centre Campus and a £41 million extension at the City South Campus, equipping it with specialist laboratories for its new courses in sport and life sciences.

Enhancing your career prospects

BCU offers career support and advice throughout university life and up to three years after graduation. Its Graduate Plus scheme embeds career-related skills into all of its degree courses. Through these career tools and mentoring schemes, you’ll have opportunities to gain industry and professional practice experience.

BCU’s commitment to equipping its students with the necessary skills and experience to meet the requirements of the professional working world places it in the elites of multi-disciplinary institutions in the UK. Over 90 percent of its students are in employment or further study within six months of graduating.

To experience more of a culinary adventure head out to the city centre where you will have plenty of opportunities to dine in award-winning Michelin-starred restaurants or to explore one of the most unique street food scenes in the UK.

Nightlife

With a massive nightclub scene that is loaded with some of the hottest nightclubs in England, grand pubs bursting with Victorian charm and cocktail bars with great-value student nights, Birmingham is a great place to party.

When the academic pressures of uni life become too much, the city is packed with places to let loose and unwind on the dancefloor from sleek and chic super clubs like PRZYM, to grungy basement raves.

No matter what type of music you’re into, whether it is the latest dance anthems or classic indie tunes, you’ll find the right soundtrack to your night in one of PRYZM’s four rooms.

For a more unique night out with an industrial feel, Spotlight is built underneath one of Digbeth’s Victorian railway arches and features electric DJ sets.

Frequently asked questions about student accommodation near Birmingham City University

How can I book student accommodation near Birmingham City Uni on Student.com?

Booking student accommodation near Birmingham City Uni on our website is easy. After choosing your student property, click on ‘View rooms’ button to go to the property page of that property.

On the property page you should choose your preferred room type and the dates you’ll want to be living in the property. After making your choice, click ‘Enquire’ or ‘Book Now’.

You’ll then be asked to create an account and leave your contact details. One of our booking consultants will then contact you to answer your questions and walk you through the next steps in the booking process.

Why should I live in private accommodation instead of university halls despite the higher cost?

Living in a private student accommodation instead of university halls will give you more freedom of choice. You can choose which part of the city you want to live in, and you can decide yourself whether you’ll want to share with flatmates or live by yourself in a studio flat.

Many modern PBSAs (purpose-built student accommodations) also offer great amenities for their inhabitants. These often include things like games rooms, in-house gyms and social events which are great for making new friends.

What are the different room types you offer?

We offer three types of rooms:

Shared Rooms accommodate two or more students in one bedroom. Other living spaces such as bathrooms and kitchens are shared with occupants of other rooms.

Private Rooms accommodate one person per bedroom. Depending on the property, your bathroom may be private or shared. Other living spaces are shared with occupants of other rooms.

An Entire Place provides a fully private property that does not require sharing of any living spaces. You’ll get your own bedroom, bathroom and a small kitchen for cooking meals.

Yes! All the student accommodation we offer near BCU is available also to postgraduate students, as long as you are a full-time student.

Can I see the flat before moving in?

This can be arranged if you want and if you’ll be in Birmingham before your move in date. Many of the properties we list have lots of photos and videos available on the property pages though, so you’ll be able to get a good idea of what your new home will look like even if you’re not able to do a viewing.

Do I have to pay a deposit to secure my booking?

Yes, typically the landlords require a deposit to be paid to secure a booking. This deposit is paid directly to the landlord, and you won’t have to pay anything to Student.com.

Your booking consultant will give you more information about paying your deposit once you are ready to book.
