Frequently asked questions about student accommodation in Washington, D.C

How can I apply for student housing in D.C.?

Applying for student accommodation with Student.com is a hassle-free and smooth experience. First, you don’t have to worry about costs using our helpful services, as Student.com does not charge you anything for this service. You’ll only need to pay the rent to the property you end up selecting.

The first step is to click “View Rooms” on a property you are interested in. This will take you to the property page where you can choose your preferred type of room. After selecting a room you like, click “Enquire” to create an account. After this, you will have a booking consultant reach out to you shortly to help you confirm the best option that fits your needs, answer any questions you may have and finally take you through the booking process once you have made your decision about which property to book.

What room types are available?

Each property and building has slightly different room rental options, but generally we offer three different types of rooms.

In a Shared Room you’ll be sharing a bedroom with a roommate. Other facilities are shared with occupants of other rooms.

If you book a Private Room, you’ll get a private bedroom all for yourself. In some properties you may also get a private bathroom. Communal facilities, like living rooms and kitchen, will be shared with other people.

Booking the Entire Place will give you a fully self-contained property all for yourself. You’ll have your own private bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette for cooking meals. No need to share with anyone, so this option is perfect if you love your own peace and quiet!

Naturally the Shared Rooms and Private Rooms are typically more affordable than booking an Entire Place and the properties can often help you with finding roommates.

What options are there for contract length?

Properties built for student housing typically have a 10-12 month minimum stay. Depending on availability, the properties may make exceptions and offer shorter terms as well. The shorter the lease term, the higher your monthly rental rates will typically be. Check with our team and we will work to find the best option for you!

What bills are included in the rent?

This depends on the property you select, so check the property you are interested in. Many of the properties we list have at least some bills and amenities included though.

Can you arrange a viewing for me?

If you are in Washington D.C before you are moving in, we can arrange a viewing for you. We do also offer virtual tours though, and many of the properties we list have lots of good photos to give you an idea of what the property will look like, so even if you can’t see the property in person before moving in, you’ll still be able to get a good idea of what the place will be like.
