Central West End
Fall for the Central West End’s charming turn-of-the-century architecture and its bars, cafés, restaurants and shops
Make your home in this part of St Louis and you’ll live on the streets neatly sandwiched between Forest Park and Washington University to the east, and St Louis University and downtown to the west. With such a fantastic location, it’s no wonder that CWE is a highly desirable spot to call home. Spend your student days walking up and down boulevards and avenues lined with impressive turn-of-the-century buildings. Then fill your evenings trying out local restaurants with friends, or enjoying live music in one of the many bars.
Go shopping for books, or just sit and read your notes in one of the area’s coffeehouses, many with seating on the sidewalk, which is perfect for people watching. Once you’ve refuelled, get back on your way to see some of St Louis’ biggest attractions, many of which are to be found in the CWE, like the Basilica (beautiful inside and out), or Forest Park.
Don’t take for granted the fact that you’ll have one of the USA’s finest, and largest, urban parks in your neighborhood. Reflecting the city’s charitable spirit and passion for sharing the arts, you can visit the museums for free or see musical theater at The Muny’s outdoor amphitheater. Go for jogs by the lake or past the zoo, or pack a picnic to enjoy on Picnic Island, which you reach by walking over a picturesque suspension bridge. If a trip to Forest Park doesn’t de-stress you after a hectic week at college, we don’t know what will!
