Rich culture, artistic innovation and a great student atmosphere make Raleigh West the ideal base for your college adventure
Experience the excitement and camaraderie of college life in West Raleigh, the beating heart of NC State University’s vibrant student community. Show your Wolfpack spirit at the annual Paint The Town Red homecoming event, cheer the football team on to glory at Carter-Finley Stadium, or celebrate with thousands of your fellow students on Hillsborough Street after a basketball victory at PNC Arena.
Raleigh West is also home to some of the state capital’s most important cultural venues - including the Museum of History, where you can learn about North Carolina’s role in every major event from the Civil War to the Civil Rights movement. Music and food are the cornerstones of culture in the deep south, and West Raleigh allows you to indulge in both. Satisfy your cravings for Carolina barbecue at legendary restaurant The Pit, discover soul food staples at The Flying Biscuit, or settle in for an evening of live bluegrass at Irregardless Café.
You’ll find plenty of outdoor spaces in West Raleigh, too. Marvel at the beauty of springtime in JC Raulston Arboretum, or escape the full heat of summer in shady Pullen Park. In October, the North Carolina State Fair is well worth a visit, if only for the chance to try outrageous delicacies like deep fried butter and Krispy Kreme burgers. Raleigh West is also ideally placed for venturing further afield, with the ski slopes of Boone just a three-hour drive west, and the shores of Wilmington and Oak Island less than two hours to the east.
