Enjoy peaceful, pleasant living with the UK's most picturesque campus on your doorstep and the city centre a short stroll
Set on a gentle slope overlooking Exeter's bustling centre, this part of the city is home to the university's main campus that stretches over 100 hectares and is acknowledged as the most picturesque in the UK. Much of the beautiful swathe of rolling hillside is Streatham Campus Gardens - park and woodland brimming with diverse and expertly maintained flora where you can spend your downtime stretched out on manicured lawns, or by ponds alive with nesting birds, tinkling fountains, and buzzing dragonflies.
Of course also nestled among the grounds are the University of Exeter's countless departments, libraries, and facilities. These range from its extensive and impressive Sports Park - with everything from tennis coaching to keep-fit classes - to theatre, music, and art venues where you can get involved with a rich programme of events throughout the year. There are also plenty of cafés and bars for extra-curricular student socializing over coffee or locally-brewed ales.
There's much to be explored outside campus too, starting with a trip into Exeter town centre where you'll find ancient castle walls and cobbled lanes side-by-side with a bustling high-street and 21st-century shopping malls. For more peaceful settings, however, a short bus journey can transport you to the scenic and leafy surrounds of Stoke Woods where you can stroll meandering paths through an ancient forest. If an adrenaline rush is more your thing, you can also battle it out with friends at the wood's paintballing centre!
