A friendly college town with a love of the arts and creative cuisine, dotted with parks and nature trails to explore
Home to the second largest international student population in the US, West Lafayette’s Purdue University makes the city a diverse and dynamic study destination, with lots to do. In summer, rock out to your favorite tunes at the Dancing in the Street festival, or sample street food twists on global flavours at the Taste of Tippecanoe foodie fest every June. If that’s too long to wait, weekly farmers markets offer samples of regional treats all year round.
Just a hop on a bus or drive over the river to get to sister town Lafayette, where hip arty bars and gourmet delis offer yet more choice for eating out. Don’t miss the Emergency Munchie Truck cruising around Downtown!
Explore the great outdoors with a dip in the Wabash River, followed by a BBQ at Tapawingo Park. Or get closer to wildlife further out of town at Wolf Park where you might catch a glimpse of a newborn pup.
Back in West Lafayette, park up in a cosy spot for coffee at Vienna Espresso Bar & Bakery near campus, or peruse the city’s many independent galleries like Lala or Fountain where you’ll find a thriving local art scene. Track murals, graffiti and art installations all over town on an Outdoor Art Trail or spend hours hunting down unusual antiques at quirky vintage stores. Getting lost in the nostalgic aisles of Von’s independent book shop is all too easy.
Your new city is also perfectly placed for fun day trips - drive to Indianapolis in an hour or take a quick, three-hour train to Chicago for a weekend away.
