Edit(in response to their reply): We’ve reached out to both the email and phone number provided — still no resolution. Instead of fixing the issue, Uptown Square has doubled down, insisting we owe the amount listed. The “reach out” line in their reply is just for show. Awful amenities and even worse management. Save your time, effort, and most importantly, your money. This place doesn’t care about you or the problems they create (like changing guest parking policies without notice — and of course, the one person who knows anything about it is never there). I lived here for THREE YEARS, and it only went downhill. When I first moved in, the car gates were permanently stuck open (they didn’t fix them until after I moved out, 3 years later.), and the pool was under construction. During my second year, the Wi-Fi was practically non-existent, and they disabled the in-wall Ethernet ports so you couldn’t even hardwire your connection. As well as packages would go through the office and I wouldn’t get notified about packages being there until 10 minutes til the office closed and often wouldn’t be able to pick my packages up unless I got their email notification. By my third and final year—the worst one—my unit had two major ceiling leaks(separate) in less than a year. The elevator was out of service for months with zero urgency to repair it. The cherry on top? They tried to bill me over $1,000 plus my security deposit for supposed “damages.” I’m extremely neat and OCD about keeping my space clean and well-maintained. This apartment was not new when I moved in — the building was already about a decade old. There was absolutely no damage worth anywhere near $1,000. This complex caused nothing but problems and headaches. The office staff are either clueless or straight-up arrogant about the issues they create. One worker even told me they don’t accept cashier’s checks for rent and actually suggested I shred mine. (Obviously, I didn’t.) After she went back and forth with Manny(the head manager) — who refused to leave his see-through office — they finally accepted it. Shocker. That’s just a taste of what you can expect here — from your unit to the management, it’s nothing but chaos and excuses.

Very disappointed. From day one there were roaches . The apartment appeared to be half cleaned. Spider webs on the entry way cabinet. Floor also not moped. Toilet constantly running and malfunctioning smoke detectors . One that is still missing. Was told upon visit and signing the lease of a $250 gift card. That was in August. Followed up several times including last week . Was told it would be sent out. Followed up today only to be told no gift card would be issued. Spoke to Manny Garcia the manager. He stated this was the first time he was informed of this. Apparently there is no communication here. The initial leasing agent was so sweet and professional. She was the one to say we qualified for referral gift card. Paying double the rent is not worth it here. Have additions family members that were looking forward to staying here. So much for that.

Edit in response to management reply: No emails were sent to me. Even still that's irrelevant. We spoke to the towing company and the only reason they went out is one of the staff members who lives on property had her reserved spot blocked. She then got angry and asked them to tow everyone without stickers, at 7:00 pm. Of course you should tow cars in reserved spots, but towing cars not in reserved spots so early in the afternoon when your 20 guest spots (out of hundreds) were full was bound to catch up parent visiting their kids on family weekend. Perhaps students employees should not have the power to call tow trucks? This is the 3rd property we have had here in San Marcos, so please don't pretend you have some generous policies. This was not an issue in the other two properties. Finally, our daughter's building has been without wifi for over a week, perhaps you could fix that before towing cars, from a lot that was at maybe 60% occupancy all because some staff member was having a bad day. ------------------------------------------- Original post: Beware, not a family friendly complex. On parents weakened visiting my kid in the apartment I pay for as the guarantor, when all the guest parking is full of people going to the game, I was towed in 2 hours. Are we just not supposed to visit our kids because you don't paint enough guest parking spaces? I smell a racket, plenty of other places to place your kids going to Texas State.

DO NOT live in this apartment complex. My daughter lived there. Maintenance broke her bathroom mirror while fixing a leak from the apartment above. She went 4 months without a mirror because they were waiting on clips?!? I had to start calling EVERY day to complain and it still took several weeks for them to fix it. Her vents were just holes in the ceiling. I had to call and demand they put vent covers on. My daughter and her roommate would put in maintenance request tickets and they would simply close them out without repairing anything. Their neighbors left trash on the walkway which caused maggots in their apartment. My daughter put in maintenance requests about the trash in the walk ways between apartments and nothing was done. It was left out there so long there were maggots!! When I called to report it I was told that it was the weekend and it wasn’t an emergency and to just poor bleach on the maggots. We ended up reporting them to the health department. The maggots ended up under their fridge. The maintenance department said the fridge would have to be discarded but they would need to leave it there for a few days. We had to call and demand that the fridge be taken out immediately. This is when we contacted the health department. The security gates NEVER worked. I would call periodically to ask about the gates and they would ALWAYS say they were being worked on. Someone stole the catalytic converter from my daughter’s car. My daughter ended up moving out months before her lease was up because it was so disgusting and she couldn’t get out of her lease. Do not believe any positive reviews…they give students gift cards to leave positive reviews. Actually meeting with an attorney to discuss options. I just don’t know how the people that run this place can sleep at night.

I lived here for about a year, and my overall experience was not great. The maintenance staff were good, but many other things were disappointing. The valet trash service was unreliable, some days it was picked up and other days it was not. The building stairs and walls were extremely dirty for most of my time there, and management decided to paint and clean them shortly before I moved out. The elevator was out of service for months, and even though I clearly explained that I had a leg problem and requested repair, nothing was done. I moved out on July 4 and still have not received any information regarding my balance, deposit, or final statement. When I called the office, they kept transferring me from one person to another, and I never received a clear answer. I expect that after reading this review, management will finally reach out with the move-out details. The only positive note is that Manny and one of the office staff (a woman with two dogs) were always helpful and kind. Because of them, I am giving this place 2 stars instead of 1.
