The building had a water issue that caused flooding. Students dealt with the mess and inconvenience —and the only “compensation” was a tray of mac and cheese and Chick-fil-A nuggets to show, and I quote, “appreciation.” That tells you everything about how concerns are handled here. A whole 22 story building by the way.

My son Venkat has been residing at Castilian since Aug 2025. What makes Castilian Apartments near UT Austin a good place overall is the responsiveness and support from the management team. Ms. Madeline, the apartment manager, is truly exceptional. She is very cooperative with resident requests, responds promptly, and takes action quickly. It’s rare to find a manager who is not only efficient but also genuinely caring and approachable. Her helping nature makes a big difference in day-to-day living, and it’s clear she values residents and their concerns. I’d also like to recognize staff member Mr. Cooper, who is always helpful, polite, and professional. Whether it’s answering questions or assisting with requests, Cooper consistently provides great support. Overall, the management team makes Castilian Apartments a comfortable and well-run place to live. Highly recommend!

The Castilian, run by American Campus, is not a home it is a BUSINESS. They do not care about your well-being, it is all about profit. Issues I've had from living there: 1. You PAY for laundry and the washers and dryers damage your clothes and over half of them do not even work usually. 2. My hallway always reeks and there is no ventilation, the air smells disgusting and the floors are always dirty. People on my floor had a MOLDY ceiling and shelf in the bathroom and it took them one week to remove it and they left the moldy items in the hallway for over a week! 3. The bathroom doesn't have any ventilation leading to moldy and foggy bathrooms with terrible air quality. 4. The food options are limited to none and have zero vegetarian options for example. The breakfast is bad and they are always missing something. Dining Hall's schedule is TERRIBLE. Closes at 6:30 pm on weekends! 5. Elevators are always broken. I got stuck in the elevator for 2 hours on the first week of school. 6. Most CA's and managers are rude and have an attitude. They often roll their eyes at you when you ask for a package. Only good thing is the proximity to campus and the nice views. It's terribly overpriced for what it gives you, over $1600 a month for having a roommate and sharing a bathroom with 3 other people is RIDICULOUS.

⚠️ HUGE SCAM – DO NOT LIVE HERE ⚠️ As a freshman living here, I’ve had nothing but frustrating experiences. This place is wildly overpriced for what you get. If you didn’t get on-campus housing or just want to live off campus — live literally anywhere else. You’ll save money, eat better, and have a better overall experience at any of the 50+ apartments near Castilian. Let’s start with the food: it’s awful. The breakfast menu never changes, and lunch/dinner is basically cafeteria “fusion” — random scraps and undercooked meat thrown together. For what you pay, it’s unacceptable. On top of that, the dining area is rarely even open. The staff cuts food off early, so you only get breakfast from 7–10, lunch from 12–2, and dinner from 5–8. That doesn’t sound terrible, but lunch times are inconsistent — they change daily — so you’re constantly stuck trying to figure out what to eat between breakfast and dinner. There has been at least one elevator broken all year, and now there are two. Most likely will be three pretty soon. That means constantly walking down 11-22 flights of stairs just to leave your room. People only live here to flex that they can afford it or because parents think it’s a “better” dorm — but it’s far from that. On-campus housing offers way more dining options, and off-campus apartments come with kitchens. You could get a meal plan and still pay less than what Castilian charges for rent. The rooms are tiny — you’re practically touching your roommate — and for what you’re paying, you could easily get a bigger space or your own room somewhere else. I get that some parents choose this place because it’s close to campus and on Guadalupe, as well as it just being Freshmen, but trust me, once you live here, you’ll realize how bad it really is. Save your money and your sanity. Live anywhere but here. You’ll see !

I live here as a resident and I really like it, the amenities, gym, and cafeteria are diverse and the view from my dorm is incredible. The workers are kind, especially the maintenance and cafeteria workers. The RA Cooper is always willing to answer questions and help out with residents.
