Texas Tech University Student Housing

Please understand that signing a housing contract at Texas Tech means nothing. They encourage students to register right away, and then can change everything about the terms of your contract with no notice. Single rooms become doubles and you will be scrambling at the last minute to find new accomadations. Your contract only protects them, it has no protections for the student. My daughter signed up to renew her West Village housing in November (she was a resident there this year and wanted to stay). She signed up for her same 4 room apartment style suite where everyone has their own room with a double bed and 2 shared bathrooms for 4 people. On Friday at 5pm she got the email informing her of a change to her room and telling her she has 2 weeks to make a decision. For the same price she would now be sharing a room with another person, the 8x10 rooms would no longer be singles in any of West Village A. She thought she had housing secured in November. She just dealt with the madness of trying to get a parking pass for West Village earlier this month. She is trying to get through the last couple of weeks of school and now she has to stress over housing. Surely this decision to change these West Village A and alter students contracts wasn't made at 5pm on a Friday and they could have given the students more notice, or implemented these changes before asking students to renew. I am sure Texas Tech University will once again welcome their largest freshman class ever, it would just be nice if they took care of and honored existing housing contracts of the sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The school can do better, there are so many kind people at the University that want to be better, but someone in charge looked at a spreadsheet and prioritized profit over people.

Texas Tech Housing will change your housing status and the terms of housing, months after siginging up for housing and paying the deposit. Changes to contracts are not made due to emergency or unforseen circumstances. The administration clearly does not know how to plan and are trying to cram as many people into rooms as possible. They do so in a way that makes it harder for people to change housing plans and costs more money for students. Whoever is in charge of the University's long term planning and facilities management hopefully did not earn their degree from Tech. Their incompetence would be an embarrassment to all that also have Texas Tech on their degree. Not that this review will matter. They didn't get feedback to begin with and some administrators just made decisions for financial benefit.
