Yugo Austin Rio

I lived here for 3/4 years at UT. Overall, I loved it! I felt that I was getting a good deal in terms of how much I was paying for the space that I had (room, bathroom, and shared spaces). Maintenance was responsive and leasing was usually pretty great to work with. Because it is a smaller building we had less of the “traditional” west campus issues such as broken elevators and package theft which was nice. The gym was decent enough and while the old study rooms were a little dinghy, they are in the process of a renovation. I will say, my biggest qualm was that the upkeep of the property itself wasn’t good. There was consistent algae/mold growth in the elevator bays in the garage, the stairwells were NEVER cleaned despite multiple asks (literally never a simple trash pick-up or vacuum), and the garage itself was filled with dirt and trash, especially once they got rid of the trash cans on each level (I guess they didn’t want to take them out as often as needed). The contracted cleaning company did the bare minimum when it came to property upkeep, they would periodically mop the ground floor and elevators but the floors on the other hallways were always neglected. Finally, there were always 2-3 parking spots taken up by additional appliances for the building or the leasing crew’s golf carts. While I understand they needed a place for them, the building already has extremely limited parking, so seeing potential resident spaces continuously taken by them was frustrating. I will say I overall liked living here especially compared to other West Campus buildings (despite not having as many amenities), amending those issues would have made my time better.

I lived at Yugo Rio during my Junior and Senior years at UT, and I honestly cannot imagine a better living experience. Everything about this complex was amazing: the elevators, which rarely ever broke or had issues; the units and bedrooms, which were extremely spacious and came fully furnished with pieces that I genuinely enjoyed and felt were very modern; the amenities, which I found myself using the huge study rooms and coffee maker very often; and the EVENTS, which were so much fun! It felt like there was always something going on, and I genuinely looked forward to the coffee pop-ups, breakfast in the lobby, and trivia nights. The staff was also absolutely fantastic. A personal shoutout to Melanie, Williams, Kiana, Emily, Hannah, and all of the other team members whose names I unfortunately can't quite remember (sorry!). Everyone was incredibly friendly, and I loved getting the chance to talk with them. It felt like they went the extra mile every single time, whether it was answering questions, putting on the events, or simply taking the time to have a conversation. They all genuinely cared about the resident experience, and it was clear that they wanted to do everything they could to make sure residents were happy. Maintenance was also always super quick and reliable. Every request I submitted was taken care of within 24 hours, and the maintenance team was incredibly helpful, kind, and respectful every time they stopped by my unit. If you're looking for housing near UT, I genuinely think Yugo Rio is the best property you can lease at. It truly was the best living experience I could have asked for, and I definitely would have renewed my lease if I hadn't graduated in May.

Being a resident, I can say that Yugo Austin Rio is a great living arrangement! The place is quite peaceful most the time, and the elevators never take much time either (probably due to only having 7 floors). Additionally, it’s nice to have a free black+white printer that’s useable. Also, the gym is a nice addition. Next, the staff is super welcoming & accommodating to residents, and the staff is just super helpful and supportive in general!

Yugo Austin Rio looks very new (I think it was built in 2019). The amenities (study rooms, gym, printer, etc.) are all great. Yugo Austin Rio is also very close to UT Austin campus (about a 5 minute bike ride). The elevator wait isn't that long because there are only 7 floors. I live in a 4x4 and our apartment has a 65-inch Smart TV, living room, stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, and a washer and dryer. Yugo Austin Rio is also pretty secure since you need to scan in to get into the building, use the elevator, use the first floor stairs, etc. Move in process was very streamlined. The price is ok - it could be a little lower. Overall, I would highly recommend.
