Austin Midtown

The staff here is fantastic. Lisa, Dhaki, and Ruben are always sure that I am taken care of with whatever I need. The apartments are a little bit older, but they are well maintained, and the bedrooms are spacious. They always go out of their way to have events for their residents, and try and keep the community as clean as possible! I have enjoyed being here, plus its close El Dorado, Bartletts, Nosh and Bevvy, Lalas, and of course, Top Notch!!

Update Edit June 2026: Star added. I continue my residence at Austin Midtown and have been here since April 2023. You may read down to see my reviews during my time here. I am still very much plagued by the noise from upstairs, but I chose a 1st floor unit. Usually a good knock on a wall will alert them to their excessive noise and it will stop. It is just everyday living, but people forget what heavy boot steps on wood frame can sound like. I am extremely impressed with the Austin Midtown's maintenance and office team. There have been at least two changes in managers that I know of and the current manager is doing a superb job in my opinion. The community director Michelle Forbes has always responded efficiently and quickly to my inquiries and resolving any concerns I may have. The grounds are always well kept including the parking lot and dumpster areas. Although the property is very old you cannot beat the feeling of home it provides. I very much value that I can choose my cable and internet. There is no annoying package service or valet trash. It is what an apartment community should be. They do not nickel and dime you AND you do not have to walk through a dark scary garage or people's trash in hallways waiting to be picked up to get to your home. Finally, I really do not like the gates but they aren't that bad. And I must admit the fence around the property makes me feel more secure. Update: May 2025. Removed 1 star. Management does care about you and the maintenance team is amazing. However: Do not pick a ground-floor unit! Even the most thoughtful upstairs neighbors will drive you insane. Anything that happens above you that makes contact with the floor or walls you WILL hear. EVERY SINGLE STEP! I thought other reviewers were just overly sensitive. I was wrong. You can be one of two types of resident here: 1. Live on the ground floor and experience every movement the upstairs' unit makes and fantasize about all the ways to disturb their peace while resentment and anger grow. You will lose sleep and sanity. 2. Live upstairs and know that your simple everyday normal life is making the person's life below you miserable and they are probably plotting ways to make your life less pleasant. Moved into Austin Midtown in April of 2023. After I had done tons of research, Austin Midtown fit the lifestyle I wanted. It's a small complex with NO GATE and each building is only 2 stories tall! I hate apartment gates with a passion and hope they never make the mistake of adding one. (Update: May 2025 it's going in, boo). Many things are very close by and in walking distance including popular old Austin staples. Gives the whole place more of a community/neighborhood feel rather than a gated complex off a highway with no interaction with the neighborhood around. Move-in was simple and easy. All my maintenance requests were done quickly and thoroughly. The complex is older. That is just a fact. However, they have added nice finishes that bring it up to date. (2nd unit did not have good sink fixtures so varies by apartment) You will hear the neighbor or people walking by talking outside through the single-pane windows. I do not own a dog but quite a few people do. I have only seen one irresponsible owner not pick up after themselves. Walking through the complex you can see that a lot of people take pride in decorating their porches and balconies which give it a village feel. In conclusion, I am okay with my decision to move here. If considering please see your unit location and make sure it is what you would like. Although floor plans may all be very similar, your location may determine if you have a private porch or not and the ease of getting to your apartment after parking. So decide what will make you happy. Also note that the smaller one-bedrooms do not have washer/dryer hookups which is a no-go for me, but I was very happy with a similar situation in my college years. It's all about what you value.

EDIT: so "you don't know a Mei"? I'm the one whose roof leaked for well over a month because my maintenance requests kept getting closed. My fire alarm went off in the middle of the night because of it. The breaker tripped another night. Items were damaged. I slept on my sofa and used pots to catch the water. I lost a lot of sleep. I'm the one who dealt with a roach infestation for a year. Getting the office to address it was like pulling teeth. The mismanagement was an embarrassment. I'm the one that frequently had AC outages. I'm the one who kept putting in service requests for ant issues and then finally figured out that I needed to tape around outlets to keep them out…because again requests were closed with no resolution. I learned that the power outlets were so distorted that they permanently destroyed my electronics. That the melting paint in the closet ruined my leather bags. My kitchen appliances are littered with white specks too. I learned that my hot water pressure was crap but accepted it and took showers at the gym in the winter when maintenance told me to suck it up. It took a new neighbor who used harsher words and threats for you to fix it. I'm the one that had the fire hazard behind my breaker, the exposed wire that needed to get fixed, that was only found because of a proactive maintenance staff that actually helped me with several issues but that you later laid off. I'm the one who found Cole with THC products in his office. Lisa with her coloring books while working. Please, pretending that because someone didn't put their full name in a review means that they're not real is so disingenuous. The two stars without the review was generous. EDIT 2: Maggie from CWS changed the response from ‘we don’t know a Mei’ to ‘actually we know you and yes you experienced that but it wasn’t our fault! We helped! It was ‘some time’ ago and the staff aren’t here anymore’. This was a handful of months ago. I tried to move. I picked a new unit and asked about logistics but then they ghosted me for weeks—one staff member is still there. I had moving boxes piling up in my place and ended up having to move them to a storage unit to keep my stuff safe from roaches. Treatment plans were botched and concessions that were offered were taken back. No lease release was offered.

One piece of advise id give living here. Unfortunately earlier I lost my key when putting it in my bag it fell out. They put a leather band with the apt number. I never got the keys back even though someone picked it up. I suggest taking this off as its possible you might get a fee for this when you move. Ive stayed here now a couple of years because I like living near the gym. They now have a fense which really helps!! The main improvmemt i could recommend and i know its a big ask. Having carpet on the top floor apt would make a big difference!! The person that just moved in and some people are loud. I can hear every time they are moving!! I just moved into Austin Midtown from the west coast but im from the east!!! I have a way better apartment here than I used to live in the quality is much nicer. The main thing for me is the sound I hear the traffic is very very loud!! Regards to the other reviews I have not seen any homeless around at all, which did make me nervous but never had trouble. Also the construction if there was at Walmart is no longer there. The wallmart is pretty big and I was able to get most of what I need. There is tons nearby!! I choose this area because I wanted to be able to live nearby the gym. I liked being able to walk to la fitness and its right nearby!! The other issue to consider is where u are working. Many of the BBQ place are more downtown or if you work there u might want a car to avoid a 50 min bus ride. I did not have any trouble as I was already in rent cafe except I wasn't added to the portal. The manager did it the day rent was due. The setup and application was great since I came from out of state. So you might need to check with them to add you since the managers are busy. Some apartments in austin I heard crazy things about but this one is fairly nice. I also liked that they had the specific days of availability because I had to get an airline ticket. Other places didn't know ahead enough always. Some didn't have washing machine. I've been pleased so far just the traffic noise has been a bit!! I think the only reason I might move more close to downtown would be if I ended up working there. I love my new apt and the space the only complaint I've had is the traffic is loud and when the person walks above me I literally hear every step they take and the cealing shakes!!! That's reason enough for me to move downtown. The advantage of the first floor is that it's hardly hot at all so far! The maintaince here has also been really helpful and was very quick to replace my fan screen when my apt wouldn't cool last night!!! I've upgrade my review there is a new fense and less worry about packages!!
