This building generally offers a fantastic location, with easy access to public transport, nearby parks, and a variety of shops and restaurants, making it very convenient for daily life. Residents often appreciate the well-maintained amenities like the gym and rooftop, as well as the welcoming atmosphere for pets. However, recent and ongoing construction has caused significant disruption, leading to noise issues, amenity closures, and occasional service interruptions that have impacted the living experience for some.

This building has started belching out black smoke from the roof every day. Nobody wants to breath this in, please clean up your building!

We lived in the Monterey from August 2022 to August 2024. The good: The first year was incredible. We loved the building and the exceptionally kind, attentive doormen and maintenance. The neighborhood is great: close to the 6 and Q trains, just a 10–15 minute walk to the park, and surrounded by several excellent restaurants and cafes. The proximity to the hospitals meant frequent sirens, but we didn’t mind. The bad: Everything changed in the second year when construction began. Promises about when it would end were not kept, and eventually, no timeline was given at all. If you’ve read other reviews mentioning construction noise, believe them. When work was happening on our floor or line, staying inside became unbearable. I had a hybrid work schedule but had to commute to my office just to attend online meetings and teach classes in peace. They would hang heavy-duty covers over the windows, blocking all natural light and making it feel like nighttime in the middle of the day. I had to keep the lights on for hours. My dog was so terrified she would hide under the bed, shaking, until the workers left or the noise stopped. Ultimately, her well-being and our mental health led us to move out. Other notes: Unlike some reviewers, we had no issues with our deposit, we received it in full and were not charged unreasonably. Bottom line: Once the construction is over, this will again be a wonderful place to live. The building has great amenities (I used the gym daily), and the staff truly care. The neighborhood is fantastic. But as long as construction continues, the building is unlivable. I strongly believe the management should consider installing insulated windows to help current and future residents cope with the noise. It would benefit everyone, including the building, in the long run.

I’ve been living at The Monterey for three years now, and we’ve been so pleased with our experience. We benefit from a great location—close to the park and the subway—with charming little shops and restaurants nearby. It’s also very kid-friendly. The building is well maintained, with a beautiful rooftop and a playroom in the gym. The gym is definitely a big plus, offering great classes throughout the week. Building management has always been very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend!

Lived here for a year and will be moving out soon. Upon signing my lease, I did not realize how noisy the daily construction would be. I moved from Florida and did not have much time to view the apartment, no one in management warned me about the daily noise that makes these apartments uninhabitable. Due to construction, the pool was closed for half a year, the garden also has been closed and the roof for months. The elevators are frequently out of service or used by construction workers and they frequently have water shut offs for hours at a time. Management office is terrible. The only nice thing about this building are the people who work the security desk. I would not recommend this building to anyone. Don’t move here. Update: I’ve included a video to document the noise level. Imagine coming home from work to this. I don’t know how families with small children can tolerate this level of noise. Not even noise canceling headphones combined with ear plugs can drown it out. This along with a multitude of other problems for the last year and the management team has the audacity to raise rent by $100. Absolutely terrible. I will certainly be moving out as soon as my lease is up.

Lovely building with an incredible view of New York City. The people who work there are friendly and polite. Pets welcome is always a plus.
