Chelsea Centro

I lived at Chelsea Centro for two years (ages 23–25) and had a truly wonderful experience. The only reason I’m leaving is because I’m heading to grad school — otherwise, I’d have happily stayed. The building is full of friendly doormen who always made coming home feel welcoming. The amenities are top-notch: the rooftop is such a gem for reading, lounging, or hosting a summer dinner party, and the third-floor patio is another underrated spot to hang out, play games, or just relax with friends. The building has a young, vibrant feel and is super well-situated — above a quiet stretch of 26th Street but walkable to tons of food, coffee, and essentials. Carlyle Cleaners (for dry cleaning) and Hue Nail Club (for mani/pedis) are literally steps away, and access to the C/E and 1 trains makes getting around the city easy. Maintenance was always prompt and reliable — anything broken was typically fixed in under 24 hours, and the handymen were also happy to help with odd jobs and were genuinely kind. The elevators were always fast and dependable. In terms of downsides, I did see a few cockroaches (three total) during my time, even though I kept the apartment very clean. Drain covers are a must. Management was responsive and handled it fairly well. The only other thing to note is that rent did increase significantly when my roommates re-signed for a third year — it’s definitely expensive, but that’s unfortunately just NYC these days. All in all, Chelsea Centro was a fantastic place to live in my mid-20s, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, friendly, and amenity-rich building in a prime Chelsea location.

The doormen and porters are incredible at Chelsea Centro. The place is always clean, and maintenance requests are addressed immediately. There are two gyms that are wonderful. The laundry room can get full at peak hours, but I was usually able to always get a machine (early on Sunday is the best time to go). Great view of the empire state building from the roof. The only complaints I have is the management company. They are completely inflexible and do not treat you like a human. They increased the rent of our apartment by $500 in one year. We moved out.
