I’ve been living at 19 Dutch for 2 years and I’ve had a great experience. The apartments are spacious, they include top of the line appliances and the views are beautiful. The building amenities are awesome, especially the huge workspace, and the location is ideally situated near the best parts of the city. The maintenance and management teams are super helpful and always respond immediately to any issue. We’ve really enjoyed our time living here and definitely plan to stay here for a while.

I chose to live in this building and pay nearly $5,000 per month specifically to avoid the kinds of pest and maintenance issues that many people expect in New York. I committed to a long-term lease because I trusted that this building would be properly managed and provide a clean, livable environment. Unfortunately, that trust has been completely broken. For nearly two years, I have been dealing with an ongoing pest issue in my apartment. I tolerated it and tried to manage it on my own for about a year and a half because I did not want to escalate the situation. However, it never improved and only got worse over time. When I finally reported it formally, the response was minimal and ineffective. Pest control treatment was performed once, and it did not resolve the issue. The problem continued immediately afterward, yet no meaningful follow-up solution was provided. Instead, I have repeatedly been given “solutions” that do not actually solve anything. I am expected to remove all of my belongings, rearrange my entire apartment, and leave for hours due to chemical treatment — all for a process that has already failed. At the same time, I am being asked to take on the burden, inconvenience, and potential health concerns for a problem that I did not cause. This is what I do not understand: why am I the one expected to manage, tolerate, and pay for the consequences of a building-related issue? Pests have appeared throughout the apartment — in the kitchen, around food, in the bathroom, and even inside my personal belongings. This is not an occasional inconvenience. This is something I deal with constantly. The daily reality of living here has been extremely difficult. After a long day of work, I come home hoping to rest, but instead I feel like I have to stay alert and on edge at all times. There have been moments where I try to do something as basic as getting dressed or using the bathroom and encounter pests in places that should be clean and safe. That is not a normal way to live. A home is supposed to be a place where you can relax. Instead, this has become a source of ongoing stress, discomfort, and anxiety. On top of this, management communication has been slow, and the responsibility continues to be shifted back onto me. I am repeatedly expected to adjust my life around a problem that was not created by me. Relocation was suggested, but only in a way where I would be responsible for all costs, and the units offered were not even immediately available. That is not a real solution. At this point, after nearly two years of dealing with this, it is difficult to understand how this situation is considered acceptable at this price point. I have continued to pay rent consistently, trusted the building, and tried to cooperate. But this has gone far beyond what any resident should reasonably be expected to tolerate.
