Where do I start. In the beginning, we enjoyed living at the mill. The location was great, and it had some nice aspects. However as time passed more and more cracks began to show. Just a couple of months after moving in we started hearing critters in the apartment. When we contacted maintenance and management they told us first that it was probably nothing because they didn’t find any holes anywhere where a rat could get through and after a few days of hearing things and then finally our dogs food bag being chewed through they admitted that several apartments were dealing with rats. Turns out a huge rat was coming through a large hole behind our dish washer (which was exactly where I told them the sound had come from) and under the washer and fridge was filled with rat poop. After that we started dealing with a constant stream of water from the air conditioning. It took MONTHS for them to figure out and fix the issue, meanwhile our belongings were getting wet and we were constantly waking up and having to clean up water from all over our island and the floor. As others have stated, the walls and floors are PAPER THIN. We heard everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) our neighbors did constantly, dogs barking, music playing, conversations etc. That’s not to mention the noise from some of the businesses in the mill who have no consideration for the people who live there. Sometime during this past summer, at about 10pm on a Sunday our fire alarms malfunctioned. These alarms are obnoxiously loud, so definitely not something that can be ignored, even neighbors from the entire other side of the building were coming out to see what was happening. So we called the emergency maintenance line several times to no answer. We ended up having to call the fire department because we didn’t know if there was an actual fire or what was going on. The fire department came out and was trying to figure out what was happening but they needed some information from the management. At one point, we had dispatch, us, and the fire chief all calling to try to get someone from the property on the line to figure out what needed to be done. After about 40 minutes of us standing around outside waiting for an answer, management finally got in contact with us. Mind you, she made it very clear that it was the weekend and that I was inconveniencing her by calling at that hour of the night, even though I was up and having to stand outside of my apartment because the alarms were malfunctioning. Anyway we figured that out. Then we had a leak in the second bedroom. This started during the time last year when it was pouring almost every day and it was getting through somewhere above us and leaking heavily into the room. We notified them the first time we saw this happening and told them our belongings were getting soaked every time it rained. They never even came to check it and when we asked they said they were waiting on the roofing company, which had nothing to do with us because there was still another apartment above us so the leaking was coming through the floor above us. Now when we moved out, our furniture that was in that room was covered in mold and ruined. Maintenance and communication were consistently poor. They never announced when they were entering the apartment, and many times they simply did not respond at all when we reported issues. We were left to repeatedly follow up or just live with the problem. These are just a few examples of things that we dealt with during our 2 years living at the mill. The property has potential, but negligent management, lack of accountability, and failure to properly maintain the building made living there exhausting and frustrating.
