I feel other tenants deserve to know about my experience. During my tenancy, I experienced the devastating loss of my service animal, followed shortly by the death of a close family member. Management expressed sympathy, and I appreciated those words, but I did not feel that compassion was reflected in the way my concerns were handled. While I was experiencing these extraordinary personal circumstances, I entered into a court-approved stipulation. Although my lease was set to end on July 31, the stipulation included an August rent payment. I repeatedly requested written clarification about what that payment represented and how it affected the end of my lease, but I struggled to receive clear, timely answers. Throughout this process, I documented my efforts to communicate through emails, text messages, phone calls, voicemail, handwritten notices, the resident portal, and even a motion requesting clarification from the court. I also requested an updated account ledger because payments I made were not accurately reflected in my resident portal. I understand that landlords have the right to enforce leases and pursue legal remedies when necessary. My concern is not that the law was used, but that communication and transparency were lacking during a very difficult time in my life. Clear answers and accurate accounting should not be this difficult to obtain. I hope management improves its communication with residents so future tenants are not left feeling as confused and unheard as I was.
