From street dance to performance art and busking bands, there’s always something going on, and the cosmopolitan culture means that there’s a wide range of places to eat, drink and dance the night away.
Choose a sunny afternoon and take a walk along the canal towpath to the Jewellery Quarter. It’s a heritage area home to a vibrant arts scene, and contains some of the city’s most popular galleries. Learn about jewellery making techniques at the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, visit St Paul’s Gallery to see music-related art and album covers, and pop into Royal Birmingham Society of Artists for three floors of art, design and sculpture.
There’s a great choice of nightspots around Corporation Street, from the Victorian-themed Jekyll and Hyde cocktail bar, to the Q Club and rock venue Scruffy Murphys.Traditional pubs Gosta Green and Sacks of Potatoes are both popular with students, and they’re just five minutes from the Aston campus.
Great travel links mean that it’s easy to get around the city. You can get to central London by train in an hour-and-a-half, but there’s lots to see closer to home. Make the short trip to Aston Hall, an historic country house and park that’s just four miles from the city centre. From there it’s a short hop to Villa Park, one of the largest football grounds in England, and home to Premier League club Aston Villa.
