The Eastern Suburbs
You’ll never want to leave this coastal paradise thanks to the beautiful golden beaches, superb surf and cool café culture
Home to one of the world’s most famous surf spots, Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs set the standard for laid-back beach culture. Legendary Bondi Beach is a masterpiece of blue sea, crashing waves and golden sand embraced by rising sandstone cliffs. It’s backed by quirky shops and cafés - it’s hard to beat the Full Aussie breakfast in the minimalist surroundings of Bill’s Bondi.
Spend a lazy morning at the famous Bondi Baths at Bondi Icebergs Club. Set on a cliff with amazing panoramic views of the beach, the baths have been a Bondi landmark for over 100 years. Take a dip in the saltwater pool, then linger until lunch when you can head to the bistro and eat on the balcony to the sound of waves crashing against the shore.
Hit the surf or stroll the Bondi to Coogee clifftop walk, passing more lovely beaches than you’d think possible on a 5km stretch of suburban coastline. Follow the clifftop path as it winds past the secluded coves of glamorous Tamarama, Bronte and Clovelly beaches; stop for a swim in the crystal waters or head straight for Coogee beach. If you have the energy to carry onto Maroubra, you’ll be rewarded with great waves and plenty of space to surf.
When the temperature soars, head inland to cool off as you browse designer shops in Bondi Junction’s air-conditioned Westfield mall. When you’ve craving green space, ride your bike around Centennial Park and pause for a picnic against the Sydney skyline, or walk amongst the gum trees of La Perouse national park.
