Central Tucson & University
Make your home in central Tucson, close to the best shops, museums and galleries, and surrounded by stunning desert terrain
Tucson is one of America’s sunniest cities, so you’ll want to get out and about. Ride the streetcar down historic 4th Avenue, where you’ll discover an array of cafés, boutiques, bookstores and galleries. Whenever you visit, it’s a great spot to hang out, with enough coffee houses, juice bars and one-of-a-kind restaurants to suit every appetite. Twice a year there’s a huge street fair, which is famous for its arts and crafts booths, food stalls and street performers.
Visit the amazing range of museums and galleries, which are dotted all over town, including Arizona State Museum and Tucson Museum of Art, which has an emphasis on Latin American art. Head straight for the top floor to admire the amazing Mayan sculpture. After your tour, stop off at El Charro Café for lunch; it’s the nation’s oldest Mexican restaurant and is famous for its Tucson-style Mexican cuisine. Order the carne seca and you won’t be disappointed!
The University of Arizona campus is right next to Main Gate Square, a pedestrianised shopping district that’s popular for its outdoor events and popular student hangouts. Eat in at No Anchovies pizzeria before picking up some sweet treats at Paradise Bakery. Watch the whole area come alive on game day, when sports fans gather to cheer on the hometown Wildcats team.
Have an all-American college experience on Bear Down Fridays, which take place the day before U of A football games. Join the cheer squad, band and mascots for the pep rally and indulge in some celebratory happy hour specials at restaurants along University Boulevard.
