Leave your student housing and head downtown to take a walk along the Mississippi River levee. Stop off at Strands Café for a Tahitian vanilla iced latte and a spiced scone, then visit the Louisiana State Capitol and take in the incredible panoramic view from the top. Or learn about political history at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol. The former statehouse is now a museum and cultural center, which hosts art exhibitions and lectures — don’t miss the award-winning ‘Ghost of the Castle’ show. Treat yourself to New York-style pizza at Schlittz & Giggles, then get your culture fix at Opera Louisiane.

The regular Arlington Shuttle Service makes it easy to get to class at Louisiana State University. If you’d rather make your own way, you can walk to campus in 35 minutes, or cycle there in around 10. Alternatively, you can park on site and drive to class in five minutes.

Despite the convenient location, there’s so much to do at Arlington Cottages & Townhomes that you’ll be happy to hang out at home. Call into the 24-hour clubhouse on your way back from class, or meet friends at the pool house to watch TV or play pool, shuffle board, ping pong or arcade games.

If you need some quiet time, relax with a book under one of the cabanas, then cool off with a refreshing dip in the resort-style pool. When you need to clear your head, work up a sweat in the fitness center or spin room, followed by a stress-relieving sauna and steam room session.

Back in your cottage or townhome, freshen up with a hot shower in your private bathroom, throw your gym clothes in the washer dryer, then make dinner in your fully equipped kitchen. When it’s time to hit the books, retreat to your room and connect to the free internet, or head to the study hall to work with friends. If you need some peace and quiet, grab a seat in the business center, where there are Macs, PCs and a printer, as well as a conference table and TV for group study.
