Return to Index Voice (Male) by vteen, January 10, 2006 10:02 AM
Worried that your voice is still a bit high pitched? Its quite alright. In puberty, a boy’s voice will get deeper. This happens when enough testosterone is released in the body, causing your larynx (your voice box) to grow larger and your vocal cords get thicker. It happens to all boys eventually, but at different times. If all your friends have got there and you haven’t, don’t worry! In puberty, everything happens at different times for different people. For some, it happens as early as 11 or 12. Others, it doesn’t change until you reach 16 or 17. It can be happen anytime within there for you. You will first notice it when your voice sounds like its cracking. Your voice tones will go high and low constantly. It will begin squeaking a lot. This process can happen for a couple a months to a year. When it starts to happen, don’t bother about it, all boys go through it, and soon enough, you’ll have that bass voice you always wanted! That brings me to another point, I suggest avoiding singing or shouting while your voice begins to crack. It will save yourself the embarrassment when your voice begins to play tricks with you at the most unexpected of times. Now might be the best time to take a break from the choir or your band. Otherwise, enjoy the bumpy ride of puberty, very soon you’ll have all the ingredients to become a man. This article graciously provided by vteen.com
