Pregnancy testsPregnancy tests detect small amounts of the pregnancy hormone called human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) this hormone is secreted when an egg implants in the uterus and pregnancy begins. Most home testing kits can detect this hormone 7 days after your period should have started, but some can detect this hormone up to 4 days before your period is due, but do read the pack of the brand you buy as they all work with different timings depending on their sensitivity. How to us one?Well there are two main type that are in use, a stick type and a reader type, with the stick type all you do is go for a pee and place the stick in the stream (mid flow first pee of the day is best) of urine for a few seconds, place the tester on the side and wait for 5 minutes to see if the indicator shows you are pregnant. Most indicators have a control sign and a positive sign the positive sign will only show if you are pregnant. The reader type is different, you have to wee in something collected (mid flow first pee of the day is best and place a small drop directly onto the reader, you still need to wait 5 minutes for the results to show up, and I feel this is a much more messy way to do a test so I wee on the stick. False readingsYou can always have a false reading from a test, The tests are 99% accurate, but you can get a positive result when in fact you're not pregnant and you can get a negative result when in fact you are pregnant, it is always best to take 2 tests 7 days apart with the second test done on the last day of your missed period, but for the most, they are mostly accurate. the only real way to be sure is to have a blood test taken, this can take 4 hours to 4 days for the results For more information on sexual health visit http://www.asksam2.com © 2000-2006.
