HepatitisHepatitis comes in 5 main groups A,B,C,D,E. while not all groups are obtained via an STD, most are so that is why Hepatitis is listed as an STD. each group has its own unique method of causing an infection and all are caused by a different virus. Hepatitis AHepatitis A is caused by infected food or drinking water that is contaminated with a virus called HAV. HAV can also be spread by anal/oral sex (rimming, giving him head after anal sex). Although it causes the liver to swell it is not long lasting and almost everyone has a full recovery Hepatitis bHBV is the virus that causes Hepatitis B and is spread via the exchange of bodily fluids with an infected person; this highly contagious virus is the most common form of Hepatitis STD. Hepatitis B can cause serious liver damage, which may lead to cancer; it can be a lifelong infection too. Hepatitis cCaused by HCV Hepatitis C is much like Hepatitis B in the way it spreads and damages the liver Hepatitis C can become chronic and lead to cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) Hepatitis dHepatitis D is spread the same way as HBV but you can only be infected with HDV if you are already infected with HBV, causes swelling of the liver. Hepatitis eHepatitis E is caused by the virus HEV. Spread via contaminated drinking water infected with the virus. This type this type is rare in the west. Protection from infectionType A and B have a vaccine, for type B, C, D for sexual contact using a condom or femidom helps. Type B, C, can be treated with drugs.
