Condoms

Condoms are a barrier method of birth control; they are the number one method of birth control used by men and women. More condoms are sold worldwide than the contraceptive pill for pure sexual use. The condom works by placing a barrier between the male and female sex organs so preventing sperm from entering the female and therefore preventing the risk of pregnancy. The other major advantage of this form of birth control is that the barrier (condom) also offers both people some protection from STD's. you are not always protected from STD's by the use of condoms as some STD's can affect other parts of the body that are not protected by a condom.

How safe are condoms?

Condoms are 98% effective if used correctly for preventing pregnancy. Condoms should never be used with oil based lubes the oil breaks down the latex and the condom will break or tear rendering it useless. Condom should never be doubled up, i.e. never use two condoms to add added protection, air between the two condoms heats up with friction from thrusting and weakens the condom leading it to break or tear.

Our condom broke what should we do

?

First off do not panic if you noticed it broke before you finished having sex, remove the condom wash your penis and hands, then replace the condom with a new one to carry on having sex. If you notice it's broken when you finished having sex then inspect the condom and see if it is complete, if you suspect that some of the condom is still inside her, try and feel with your fingers if you can, if you can feel it, then try to remove it, left inside her for a prolonged time it might lead to TSS (toxic shock syndrome). If you can't get it out and still suspect some of the condom is still inside her, then try and remove it by the use of a douche. Work out the time in her cycle, if she is close to her mid cycle days and you came inside her then you need to get EC (emergency contraception) if you are unsure about or still feel safer to use EC then do so within the next three days for best cover or the next five days for lesser effectiveness of EC.

Nonoxynol-9

Nonoxynol-9 is an agent that kills sperm it can also be an irritant nonoxynol-9 can also lead to yeast infection if you are someone that suffers from a lot of yeast infections then use a condom without a spermicidal. Nonoxynol-9 also tastes strange so for oral sex I would use a none spermicidal coated condom or try one of the flavoured ones, they come in lots of flavours and can be fun to use.

Vaginal and anal sex

Never use the same condom for vaginal and anal sex, always remove the condom and put on a new one when you change from vaginal to anal or anal to vaginal sex, this reduces her risk of infection and the risk of an UTI (urinary tract infection) and PID's (Pelvic inflammatory disease)

After sex and condom removal

Once you have finished having sex, remove the condom and wash your penis and hands, this does two main things, one is that you might have sperm on your fingers from removing the condom if you start to get intimate again then you won't pass sperm to her vagina and cause a pregnancy (what wearing the condom was used for in the first place, and two, if either of you had an STD it would help to stop any infection being transmitted if you become aroused and intimate again.
