 About Me

I'm a friendly sort of guy, not difficult to talk with, but somewhat harder to understand. I'm not an outgoing sort of guy, I like keeping to myself a fair bit, more of a thinker than a doer. I'm an Atheist, a gamer, a reader, a geek and several other things. If you want to know more about me then just ask.

Why Atheism? And why attack religion?
I don't usually feel the need to explain myself or what I think, but in this one case I think it's necessary. Now Atheists get a fair bit of bad press, they're in general misrepresented as being as ignorant or as contradictory as the religious, but this very often isn't the case. I am an Atheist for the same reason I don't believe in unicorns or dragons, because there's no more evidence supporting the existence of a deity, be it the Judeo-Christian God or the gods and goddesses of centuries gone by than there is supporting the existence of faires. I don't see why religion should be immune to criticism or attack or live a charmed existence protected from mockery. Now you are entitled to believe in God, aliens or the smurfs for all I care, but don't expect an irrational argument to stand up in a rational debate. It will by definition be completely destroyed, much as if I stood up on a stage and argued that at the ends of the universe there was only milk or that at the centre of the Earth there were Oompa-Loompas shoveling pixie dust into the inferno of the molten core to give us heat. I could provide as much evidence for things as absurd as that, as you could for the existence of God. Now tell me why is God more credible? Why should beliefs with no more evidence that the most fanciful creations of my own imagination be immune to criticism? I can attack anybodys political opinions with any amount of vigor I wish, i can attack your taste in music, movies, your conspiracy theories and opinions on any other topic. But I can't touch religion, because it might cause offense? You will just have to forgive me, because that is not a tenable position.

Liverpool Football Club
I've had a long turbulent relationship with the football team I grew up supporting, it's difficult for people to understand how important the team is to this city and its people. Liverpool FC is more than a football team, it's an institution that brings tens of thousands of native Liverpudlians together every week in support of them. They sing, shout, cheer, applaud and celebrate for 90 minutes every game, win or lose. I have never experienced a rush in my life greater than the anticipation of a goal at Anfield, the crowd always senses it, the tension rises and suddenly when the ball hits the back of the net, it's all released in an explosion of happiness and joy. It's a beautiful sight and a deafening sound, utter euphoria which cannot fail to inspire. Anfield is unique and Liverpool a special club, it isn't bias that makes me say that, I have simply never heard or saw anything which comes close to the loyalty of the fans or the passion they display every single game. Nothing comes close, I was once told that I had lost my heart for the game, recently I realised that once a fan, always a fan, anybody who has experienced that sound erupting from the Kop knows that it stays with you for life. No big enough tribute can be paid to the fans of this special club, they're remarkable.

Conspiracy theorists
The funniest thing about conspiracy theorists is that apparently they don't need any academic credentials, in-depth knowledge of the relevant information or any experience in the necessary fields of expertise required to provide a theory. Yet insist that opponents to their theories must be leading authorities or rather individuals who fit into the theorists bizarre criteria for ascertaining credibility. A Jewish sounding name, having even a distant relative or friend in the employ of the government or having any significant wealth often in the eyes of the conspiracy theorist is damaging to ones credibility. How could a rich Jew be trusted after all? Yet a 20-something college drop-out with too much time on his/her hands and no credibility whatsoever in the eyes of any leading authority may be considered an expert, so long as they have a crazy theory filled as usual with circular arguments, shoddy analysis and who believes in a worldwide Zionist conspiracy perhaps involving lizards masquerading as leading figures on the world stage. Welcome to the wonderful world of conspiracy theories. Enjoy your stay, because by the time they're done with you, you will no longer know which way is up.

Pet peeves on Q&A
1, People who ask leading questions on Q&A, always in an attempt to get the answer they want to see every single time. 2, When somebody asks a question and puts their own self-righteous opinion in with it. 3, Questions that have no purpose other than to gratify the person who posted it. 4, The same question posted and reposted time and again either because they didn't like the original answers or because they want attention. 5, Posters who attack the people who answer their questions, because they dislike the answers or more often than not, because somebody dared to disagree with them. 6, Individuals who amass thousands of answers by replying to light-hearted and serious questions with short dull answers "Yes" & "No". 7, Spamming the **** out of Q&A just for the sake of it. 8, The deletion of opposing views.
