I think hes wrong and should accept who he is, but the pressures of youth culture are almost forcing him to change. Anyone who wants to tell me not to take pride in that can go eff right off. Pride/patriotism, IMHO, is only a bad thing if it causes you to disrespect others because nthey are not of your same culture/country. If you respect others cultures', and still have pride in your own, then it's fine.  Rivergem: My country has done some good things but also some pretty ****ty things too. I'm proud of what good it has done but I'm not blind to its failings. As for heritage... While I'm not into giving ultimatums, it's not fair to expect someone to remain unchanged for 18 months. People change while they're in a relationship all the time. If you start dating someone who's Jewish but doesn't care that you're not, that's great. When she changes her mind later and decides she only wants to marry a Jewish man, though, you have to respect that decision. It's probably not easy for the other party either.  chibi_chibi_9000: Normally I'd say it isn't fair...but smoking is gross and she doesn't have the right to die and get sick or have you get the same. It's not fun having someone you love hurting themselves  stacious: Ultimatums or bets made with drugs, such as nicotine will always be lost almost. We made a bet with a friend that he couldn't quit smoking by November 1st of that year.
