Until then, the fetus is not a conscious, feeling, living human being... it hasn't even formed a nervous system yet for the most part. It is still just a collection of cells and tissues with simply the POTENTIAL to become a human. We kill animals and other creatures that own far more consciousness than a fetus every day for survival, food, or sport, but the second the topic of aborting an unborn "child" comes up, everyone seems to get flustered. That seems quite hypocritical to me. Many times it is unpractical to have a child, and mistakes can occur no matter what precautionary measures are taken. It is not being "irresponsible" to abort a child. Many pro-lifers say that "if you are mature enough to have sex, then you are mature enough to take the consequences of your actions", and then they somehow think that having an abortion is being immature. It is a solution to the problem, and those who have an abortion responsibly (not using it as a regular birth control) are just taking repsonsibility for their actions, whether the radical pro-lifers agree (or will admit it) or not, abortion is a reasonable option.. Abortion is not murder. It is better to me, that a child be prevented from ever coming into existence than to be born, unwanted into a "family" that won't be prepared for it emotionally, nor financially, or if put up for adoption (an even crueler thing), has no parents and is dumped into a world with only the slimmest of chances of ever really succeeding, and knowledge that not only was he/she unwanted, but that the parents were selfish enough to have the child, then dump it onto the state. Pro-"life" isn't moral, it is impractical and selfish, especially in youth. It is a personal Choice whether or not you are prepared to have a child, and just because you are physically ready for sex, doesn't mean that you have to even consider having a kid.
